Why Bet On Buffalo at +3?

The Bills got their 2019 scrimmage season off to a positive start by beating Indianapolis as veteran backup Matt Barkley completed 9 of 14 passes for 126 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and rookie running back Christian Wade added a 65-yard touchdown run in the win. Wade is giving American football a try after growing up in England playing rugby. Clearly, he needs to work on his touchdown celebrations.

“I had it all planned out. I was like, when I get to the end zone, I’m going to put the ball down, like in rugby, and I might even dive like in rugby,” Wade said. “But I thought I might hurt myself in all these pads.”

Defensively, rookie safety Dean Marlowe had one interception while fellow safety Jaquan Johnson added a team-high seven tackles.

Why Bet On Carolina at -3?

The Panthers got past Chicago 23-13 in their preseason opener as rookie quarterback Will Grier completed 9 of 16 passes for 77 yards with one touchdown and one interception while rookie running back Elijah Holyfield rushed eight times for 26 yards and one score. Rookie kicker Joey Slye made field goals of 42, 55 and 29 yards to help the Panthers get the win. Slye’s 55-yarder made a huge impression.

“He handled it really well,” Carolina head coach Ron Rivera said. “We had an opportunity for him to kick a 55-yarder. During practice, he hit a 60-something yarder. So I thought this was well within his range and it was kind of fun to watch him kick it.”

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Bills vs Panthers

While Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott is a modest 4-5 in the preseason in his career, Carolina’s Ron Rivera has gone 19-14 in the scrimmage season in his career. While McDermott is a modest 1-1 in Week 2 preseason games, Rivera has gone 5-2 in the second game of the scrimmage season.

More importantly, I’m expecting Carolina to really look to get the tone-setting win in this affair, not to mention the fact that I genuinely believe that Panthers backup Will Grier has a chance to be way better than Buffalo’s Matt Barkley could have ever hoped for.

I know the the underdog in this rivalry has gone 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these teams and the road team is an identical 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings while Carolina has gone 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. Still though, the Panthers  are a blistering 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games and I believe the entire organization is primed for a big, bounce-back season after last season’s underwhelming campaign. The Panthers win and cover the chalk!

Pick: Carolina 21 Buffalo 14
