Broncos vs Seahawks 2019 NFL Preseason Week 1 Lines, Preview & Prediction

Written by on August 7, 2019

The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks will enter the 2019 NFL season with very different goals in mind following their respective 2018 campaigns. For the Broncos, they want to get back in the playoffs after missing out the last three season while compiling consecutive losing records.

For the Seahawks, Russell Wilson and company will look to take the next step toward becoming a Super Bowl participant after their surprising run to the playoffs a year ago. Now, let’s find out which one of these teams is offering the best value against their NFL preseason Week 1 betting odds.

Why Bet On Denver at +1?

Playing in their first game under new head coach Vic Fangio, the Broncos got past Atlanta 14-10 in their Hall of Fame game preseason opener last week as backup quarterback Brett Rypien passed for 41 yards and a touchdown and running back Khalfani Muhammad had 50 yards on the ground and one score. Defensively, linebacker Dymonte Thomas led the Broncos with seven tackles while defensive lineman Malik Reed had one sack and defensive back Trey Johnson had one interception.

Last season, the Broncos finished 24th in scoring (20.6 ppg) and a modest 13th in points allowed (21.8 ppg) and they added veteran quarterback Joe Flacco in the offseason to be their latest starter under center after struggling to find a competent signal-caller the last few years. However, I’m not expecting to see Flacco much, if at all in this contest, leaving the outcome in the hands of Rypien and third-stringer Kevin Hogan.

Why Bet On Seattle at -1?

Seattle went a surprising 10-6 last season to reach the playoffs while ranking an eye-opening sixth in scoring (26.8 ppg) and impressive 11th in points allowed (21.7 ppg). Superstar quarterback Russell Wilson passed for 3,448 yards with 35 TD passes and just seven interceptions, but he almost certainly won’t see any action in this contest, leaving the outcome of this contest in the hands of backups, Paxton Lynch and Geno Smith.

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Broncos vs Seahawks

The Broncos might have gotten off to a positive start by beating Atlanta last week, but I’m going with Seattle to take care of business at home in this one for a trio of great reasons. First, the Seahawks are the deeper team on both sides of the ball and secondly, they have a bunch of position battles going that will feature a handful of players going all-out in order to nail down a potential starting job in the regular season opener.

Last but not least, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is known for his penchant for trying to win preseason games. Carroll has compiled a stellar 22-14 preseason record in nine seasons with Seattle and I believe he wants to get a big win here after watching his team go 0-4 last preseason. The Broncos are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall while Seattle has gone 7-0-2 ATS in their last 9 Thursday games and and bankroll-boosting 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall. Seattle wins and cover the small spread at home!

Pick: Seattle -1
