These teams played in L.A. last year and the Chargers won 19-10. Philip Rivers passed for 344 yards and hit Keenan Allen for a touchdown, with Allen finishing with 10 catches for 105 yards. Cleveland trailed 19-7 entering the fourth quarter, and Zane Gonzalez hit an early field goal before the Browns mounted a long drive. But Joey Bosa forced a fumble with a vicious sack of DeShone Kizer deep in Chargers territory, and Denzel Perryman recovered with 4:48 to play. The Browns had another drive, but Adrian Phillips’ interception ended it. Kizer is now in Green Bay.

The Bolts improved to 3-2 with a 26-10 home win over Oakland last week. Philip Rivers completed 22-of-27 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns. It was Rivers’ second 300-plus yard performance on the year. Rivers is currently averaging 299 yards and 2.6 touchdowns through five games this season.
Melvin Gordon rushed 19 times for 58 yards and one touchdown, adding four catches for 62 yards. With the Chargers leading big in the fourth quarter, Los Angeles rested Gordon on the team’s final drive. He’s now averaging 14.6 carries, 7.6 targets, and 119 total yards through five games.
Keenan Allen caught 8-of-9 targets for 90 yards. Allen has now seen at least seven targets in every game, and at least nine in three-of-five. He’s on pace for a 102-1,190-3 season.
Oakland’s offense had been one of the best in the entire NFL in every major category, and the Chargers didn’t just keep them in check but held them way under their season averages. Entering Sunday’s contest, the Chargers had allowed 30 points a game — much worse than the 17.3 points per contest the Chargers held teams to last season. Melvin Ingram led the Chargers in tackles with seven, had a sack and corralled an interception in the end zone to stop a promising Oakland drive.
“I like that we got off the field on third downs. That’s what I liked. That was a powerful offense. That team has been scoring a lot of yards this year — scoring a lot of points, and we got them off the field for the first half. They were zero percent on third downs in the first half,” Coach Anthony Lynn said.
The Chargers players could have extra incentive to win here after owner Alex Spanos died at the age of 95 on Tuesday morning. Spanos bought the controlling interest in the then San Diego Chargers in 1984. His son Dean Spanos took over daily operations from Alex in 1994 and has since passed that job to his own sons.

Cleveland has now played in overtime three times this season, tied with the 2002 Buffalo Bills, 1995 Indianapolis Colts and 1987 Green Bay Packers for the most such games in a team’s first five games of a season since the regular-season overtime rule was instituted in 1974. At least one game has gone to overtime in each of the first five weeks of the 2018 season, marking the first time that a season has featured at least one overtime game in each of its first five weeks.
Baker Mayfield completed 25-of-43 passes for 342 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Mayfield added 23 yards rushing on two attempts. He connected with Rashard Higgins for a 19-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left in the first half for the only touchdown of the game. Mayfield was at his best in overtime, connecting on 4-of-7 passes for 80 yards, including a 39-yard catch and run by Derrick Willies to set up the game-winning field goal.
Mayfield, who was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, became the sixth quarterback selected with the first overall pick to win his first career home start in the common draft era. The other five to accomplish the feat are New England’s Jim Plunkett (September 19, 1971), Atlanta’s Michael Vick (November 11, 2001), Houston’s David Carr (September 8, 2002), Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer (September 19, 2004) and Indianapolis’ Andrew Luck (September 16, 2002).Jarvis Landry caught 5-of-10 targets for 69 yards. He had just one catch for 10 yards in the first half and needed receptions of 27 and 17 yards on the final three drives of the game to turn in a respectable line. Landry has had two 100-yard game surrounding three lackluster games but is averaging a career-high 13.0 yards per catch. Landry has 429 career receptions in five seasons and surpassed Larry Fitzgerald (426 from 2004-08) for the most receptions by a player in his first five seasons in NFL history.
Browns coach Hue Jackson said WR Rashard Higgins is likely to miss a couple of weeks with an MCL sprain. Higgins was on his way to a good game against the Ravens before going down, catching 3-of-4 targets for 66 yards and a touchdown. With Antonio Callaway struggling, the Browns are suddenly shaky behind Landry. Coach Hue Jackson was noncommittal about adding a free agent to the roster, such as Rishard Matthews, who worked out for the Browns on Monday after being recently released by the Titans.
