Raiders upset Chiefs, Cowboys and Seahawks escape with wins
Maybe, Jon Gruden knows what he’s doing. The Las Vegas Raiders went into their game against the Kansas City Chiefs a +11.5 underdog. They left KC with a 40-32 victory. The Raiders showed that they can hang with the best team in the NFL.
If Gruden can get his players to believe that the win wasn’t a fluke, Las Vegas could pose a real challenge to the Chiefs’ lock on the AFC West Division. After all, earlier this season the Raiders beat the New Orleans Saints. Beating the Chiefs makes it a couple of Super Bowl favorites that Gruden’s team has conquered.
Now 3-2, Sin City’s next game happens on October 25 when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. Expect the Raiders’ odds to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy to significantly drop if they manage to beat Brees, Mahomes, and Brady.
Also in Week 5, the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks escaped with wins. The Cowboys’ victory over the rival New York Giants came with a huge cost. Dallas lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the foreseeable future. Prescott had surgery on his ankle after the game. The Boys turn the reigns over to former Cincinnati Bengals’ starter Andy Dalton.
MVP front runner Russell Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to their fifth straight win. The Hawks beat the Minnesota Vikings 27-26. Seattle was down 0-13 at halftime. Wilson, because he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, rallied the Seahawks to an improbable victory. Seattle gets Week 6 off. In Week 7, they take on the Arizona Cardinals.
Atlanta fires Dan Quinn, who’s next?
It feels like Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank didn’t allow Dan Quinn to drive out of the Georgia Dome parking lot before handing Quinn his walking papers. Blank had seen enough after the Falcons dropped a game to the Carolina Panthers.
Quinn, who led the ATL to only their second Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, had become a defensive-minded coach who couldn’t solve his team’s defensive issues. The one saving grace for Quinn this season was how well the offense had played through the first four weeks.
After watching his offense and defense struggle in the loss to the Panthers, Blank decided to fire Dan Quinn. Who’s next? New York Jets coach Adam Gase shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the J-E-T-S. Talk about players not responding. Gase, a former offensive genius, fields a team that averages 15 points per game and gives up 32.2 per.
Rams and Bills looking like best non-favorite options in each conference
The Bills offer overlay odds at +1400. Although everyone talks about Russell Wilson winning the NFL MVP, they fail to realize that Josh Allen has thrown for 1,326 yards, 12 touchdowns to a single interception, completed 70.9% of his passes, and rushed for 83 yards and 3 touchdowns in 4 games. The man is on pace for over 5,300 yards passing and 48 touchdown passes. He could also rush for 12 touchdowns if he keeps up the pace on the ground.
At +1600, the Rams are another overlay. Los Angeles just wins football games. They seem to be a much more mature squad than the one that lost the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots a couple of seasons ago. Consider the Rams and Saints if you’re looking to wager on a team with over +1000 odds.
Have a great week!
