Why bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?
The Eagles found themselves on the wrong side of a beating in their return to the field after their Super Bowl win last season. The defense was unable to slow down a trio of different QB’s on the Steelers, which is perhaps not surprising when you have 3 guys battling for just 2 available spots. The real lowlight was a busted play in the secondary that led to a 71-yard TD. Overall, the Eagles gave up over 270 yards through the air, although they did hold the Steelers under 100 yards on the ground. It wasn’t all bad news in the 31-14 loss, though, as Nate Sudfeld delivered a solid performance at QB, going 10/14 for 140 yards and 2 TD strikes, although he did also have a pair of INT’s. Carson Wentz saw no time on the field, and we can probably expect more of the same this week. Why bet on the New England Patriots?
The Patriots won their opening game of the preseason, taking out the Redskins 26-17. While it’s always good to come away with the win, the Patriots will be more than a little concerned with their play in the first half, particularly on the defensive side of the football. Washington went in at half-time leading 17-0, and they had their way with the Pats during that period. Back-up Coly McCoy was made to look like an all-star in the first half, torching the Patriots defense with 189 yards passing and 2 TD’s.
