This is a huge game with some massive playoff implications! This game was even flexed into the Sunday Night time slot.
At 7-5-1, the Washington Commanders and the New York Giants are currently both in the NFC playoff field. However, after this game, one of them could find themselves on the outside looking in. These two will meet at FedEx Field as the Commanders will host the Giants in this ever-important NFC East matchup.
Just a few weeks ago, these two met and the game ended in a tie. We’ll see if that happens again or if one team shows its dominance over the other. Let’s take a look at each of the two teams, and then we’ll give you our NFL Betting prediction for this rivalry game.
A Massive NFC East Battle on Sunday Night Football | New York Giants at Washington
New York Giants
The Giants got off to a great start but haven’t played as well as of late. An injury to Saquon Barkley and the lack of big-time receivers has really hurt the Giants. New York is coming off of a 26-point loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week, where they gained just 304 yards of total offense while giving up 437.
Offensively, this team seems to go as Saquon Barkley goes. After two very disappointing seasons, much of that due to injury, Barkley has had a very good season. For the most part, he has stayed healthy, and the Giants have made him a priority in the offense.
Head coach Brian Daboll has been a huge factor in the Giants’ success. He has helped turn Daniel Jones into a much better quarterback, and he has also made the running game a priority. This offense has done well, considering their lack of talent at the wide receiver position.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders‘ season changed for the better when Carson Wentz went down with an injury.
The much-maligned signal caller had struggled in his first few games with the Commanders. With Wentz out, the Commanders turned to Taylor Heinicke. Heinicke was brilliant last season after he was named the starter, and he has been brilliant again this season.
The team seems to rally around him, and have played much better with him under center. With Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson Jr. manning the backfield, and Terry McLaurin really coming on at the receiver position, this offense has made huge strides with Heinicke leading the way.
Defensively, the Commanders have gotten much better throughout the season. With numerous injuries plaguing this unit early on, they’ve had many of their key pieces return, and they are now playing really well. If the defense continues to play well, this is a team that no one will want to meet up with in the playoffs.
Prediction
The Commanders are 3.5-point favorites in this one. The Commanders are playing well, and the Giants have been struggling. The Giants are 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games. However, the Commanders are 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight games.
We just think Washington is playing better football right now, and they’ll win this game by a touchdown.
