Last Meeting

In Week 5 of the 2015 season, New York beat visiting San Francisco 30-27. Eli Manning had a career-best 41 completions in 54 attempts, and his perfect throw to Larry Donnell finished off an 82-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown with just 21 seconds left. Manning passed for 441 yards and became the winningest quarterback in team history with 102 at the time. Carlos Hyde’s 2-yard run with 1:45 remaining had given the 49ers the lead. Colin Kaepernick was the San Francisco QB that day. The Giants narrowly lead the all-time series against the 49ers, 20-19. San Francisco leads the home series against the Giants, 11-9.

Why Bet On NY Giants’ NFL Spread?

Manning, who became the seventh player in NFL history with 50,000 career passing yards (50,034) in Week 9, has started 207 consecutive games. On Sunday, Manning will tie his brother Peyton Manning (208), for the second-longest streak of consecutive starts in NFL history. Only Hall of Famer Brett Favre (297) has started more consecutive games. Giants coach Ben McAdoo made some noise this week about possibly benching Manning if the team keeps losing. Manning, playing behind a shaky offensive line and without injured wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall, has struggled. He is 36 and, at times, he looks older. At some point, it might be wise to see what rookie third-round pick Davis Webb can do.  New York could move on from Manning this offseason. New York starting cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been reinstated after serving a one-week suspension for a violation of team rules. Jenkins was suspended after he did not return from the bye week on time. He missed practice last Monday and did not contact the team. The Giants lost 51-17 to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday without Jenkins in the lineup. They allowed five pass plays of more than 30 yards, and their secondary looked lost and out of sync. It was the most points the Giants had allowed at home since 1964. Defensive ends Olivier Vernon (ankle) and Kerry Wynn (knee), linebacker Jonathan Casillas (neck) and offensive lineman Justin Pugh (back) all were limited participants at practice this week. Vernon has been dealing with a high ankle sprain and hasn’t played since aggravating the injury in a Week 4 loss at Tampa Bay. Casillas, the team’s defensive captain, has missed the past three games. Pugh missed last week. This week, two Giants anonymously told the media that McAdoo has lost the locker room – there’s no chance McAdoo is back in 2018, but the Giants owners have said they won’t be making any changes during the season.

Why Bet On San Francisco’s NFL Spread?

The San Francisco 49ers (0-9) currently own the NFL’s worst record, a dishonor that would come with the consolation prize of the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft. The Cleveland Browns (0-8) are only one week behind as the league’s only other winless team. It’s possible the winless 49ers already could be eliminated from the playoffs this week. If they are, it will be the earliest point in a season a team has been eliminated since the Denver Broncos in 1967. At this point, San Francisco is more than five games out of the final playoff spot with seven to play. Given the many franchises in front of them in the NFC, there are multiple scenarios that could result in the Niners’ official elimination by the end of Week 10. Are the 49ers a safe bet in Week 10? The 49ers of course traded for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo last week but didn’t play him Week 9 and aren’t planning to against the Giants unless rookie starter C.J. Beathard gets hurt. Coach Kyle Shanahan still wants to make sure all the pieces are in place before giving Garoppolo the green light. For example, getting left tackle Joe Staley — who is dealing with a fractured orbital under his right eye and returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday — back would be a step toward making the Niners more comfortable putting Garoppolo in. The Niners are on their bye next week, so it’s likely Jimmy G starts on Nov. 26. Hyde’s 762 yards from scrimmage on the season (494 rushing & 268 receiving) ranks seventh in the NFL and third in the NFC. Robbie Gould has gone 12 consecutive regular season games with at least one made field goal of 40 or more yards. The 49ers defense has forced three turnovers in the red zone, tying for first in the NFL this season (Bal. – 3; NYJ – 3).
