Houston Vs San Francisco 2016 NFL Winning Predictions

Written by on August 11, 2016

If there’s one thing that we can say about preseason football it’s that it can be tough to pick out potential mismatch games, simply because many of the players who will be playing in these games may no longer be in the league in a couple of weeks. There are going to be fringe players who rise to the occasion and make a name for themselves, but there are also going to be mistakes and turnovers aplenty, which is what makes these preseason match-ups so unpredictable. All of that said, it is still my job to try and sort through all of that in order to be able to make NFL expert picks. Like all of the teams in the league, I will eventually ignore my preseason picking record, unless of course it turns out to be eerily in tune with how the games actually played out. There are a lot of games on the schedule over the next few days, but only a single game on Sunday night. That one sees the Houston Texans head to San Francisco to face the 49ers.

In Depth Analysis On The Texans Vs 49ers 2016 NFL Winning Predictions

Why bet on the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are opening this season as the defending AFC South champions, but they will also be looking to make amends for a Wild Card Game horror show that they would sooner forget. They were shelled by the Kansas City Chiefs in that one, and much of the blame was pointed in the direction of the QB position, which has been a problem for the Texans for a few years now. That may explain why they spent a small fortune in acquiring Brock Osweiler from the Denver Broncos. We are going to have to wait a little longer to see what sort of impact he can make, but top to bottom, this looks like a very good team.

Why bet on the San Francisco 49ers

This is a team that made a return to respectability with Coach Jim Harbaugh at the helm, but who also started to implode in his final season and a half in charge. They have yet to recover from that, and the general consensus heading into 2016 is that the 49ers may well be one of the whipping boys in the NFL this season. The QB duo of Kapernick and Gabbert have done little to alleviate those concerns, as the reports out of training camp is that they have both been turning the ball over with stunning regularity. This game may be an opportunity to iron out some of the kinks, or perhaps make a bad situation worse.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

As I said at the start of this piece, it’s almost impossible to pick out mismatches in preseason, but this seems to strike me as one. The Texans have only played in San Francisco twice in their team history, and ended up losing both times. Those were games against very different 49ers teams. I think Houston easily covers as a 3-point dog.
