Jaguars vs Colts 2019 NFL Week 9 Lines, Analysis & Prediction

Written by on November 12, 2019

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping that starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be back in action when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in a huge AFC South divisional battle that will see the winner of this contest increase their chances of reaching the playoffs. If Brissett can’t go, Indy’s chances of getting the win here will definitely be decreased. Let’s find out now if Indy is the pick to take care of business or whether Jacksonville is the pick with veteran Nick Foles set to make his first start since getting injured in Jacksonville’s regular season opener.

Why Bet On Jacksonville?

There are a handful of good reasons to back the Jags in this matchup. Jacksonville will be hungry for the win after having their modest two-game winning streak snapped in their humbling 26-3 loss to Houston two weeks ago as a 1-point home favorite. At 4-5, the Jags also have some legitimate playoff hopes, so that’s some added motivation. While rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II went 4-4 as a starter, no one is getting him confused for the Super Bowl-winning Foles whose return in this contest should be a huge boost to Jacksonville’s offense and overall confidence level.

“Well he’s been practicing now, so we’ve already gone through the progression of, OK, when he first came back we were focused on doing this, and then we were focused on just really building it up,” head coach Doug Marrone said about Foles Monday.

Last but not least, the Jaguars have won three of the last four meetings in this AFC South divisional rivalry.

Why Bet On Indianapolis

While the Colts have lost two straight after winning their previous three games, there are also some good reasons to back the Colts in this Week 11 matchup. First, Indianapolis is playing at home where they’ve won three of five this season. Then, there’s the fact that Indy will be desperate to get back in the win column following their embarrassing 16-12 loss to the previously, one-win Dolphins on Sunday. Indianapolis has the statistically better offense in this matchup and they could see starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett return from a sprained MCL he suffered against Pittsburgh two weeks ago.

“If he’s practicing on Wednesday and he’s taking full practice, at that point we’ll say we’re ready to go, he’s our starter and we’re going full bore,” Reich said. “But we’ll wait until Wednesday to make that determination.”

Expert Analysis and Prediction

I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that, if Jacoby Brissett suits up for Indianapolis, the Colts have a much better chance of winning this matchup. If he doesn’t play and Indy is forced to turn to awful veteran backup Brian Hoyer, then Jacksonville is the pick to get it done on the road behind Nick Foles.

Having said that, I am expecting Brissett to return and Indianapolis to hold it down at home because he’s back under center. I know the Jaguars have gone a near-perfect 7-0-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings against Indianapolis and 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road dates against the Colts, but the favorite in this AFC South rivalry has gone 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 meetings and the Colts are a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five games against their division rivals. This one looks like it’s going to be a tight affair, but I like Indy to get it done.Pick: Indianapolis 24 Jacksonville 20
