Heading into last season, it had been several years since Jets fans had any real hope of success.
The arrival of Aaron Rodgers had fans cautiously optimistic, but when the all-star QB blew up his Achilles in the opening drive of the season, those hopes and dreams went up in smoke.
Regular Season Wins New York Jets Over 9.5 / Under 9.5 Jets To Reach the Playoffs: Yes -161 / No +131 |
My Analysis
Rodgers is set to return this season, and some pundits have the Jets in as a potential dark horse this time around.
The won total for the New York Jets is set at 9 ½ for the 2024 season. The Jets are at +189 to win the AFC East and +1125 to win the conference.
For the purposes of this piece, we are simply looking at their potential win total for the season, so let’s dive right in.
^September
New York have a tough opening game, as they need to go on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers, which looks to be a loss.
The rest of the month is definitely winnable, starting with another road trip to face the rebuilding Titans.
That is followed by home games against the Patriots and Broncos. There is every reason to believe that the Jets could get out of the opening month with a 3-1 record.
^MyBookie NFL Odds & Lines to Win
October
October begins with another game they should win, which is a home tilt against the Minnesota Vikings.
Things get tougher after that, with the Buffalo Bills at home, followed by a road trip to face the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They close out October with a home game against the Patriots and another road trip, this time with the Houston Texans on board.
I think 3-2 seems likely in October, taking the Jets to 6-3.
^November
It’s a relatively quiet month for the Jets in November, as they have just 2 games to play.
Road trips are never easy, but heading out to face the Arizona Cardinals should end in a win.
They close out November at home to the Colts, which I think should be another win, taking the Jets to 8-3.
^December & January
Week 12 is a bye week for the Jets, but they will return with a home game against the Seattle Seahawks, which I like them to win.
A road trip to Miami to face the Dolphins is next, with that one looking to be a good deal trickier.
They then hit the road to face the Jacksonville Jaguars before heading back home to face the LA Rams.
The Jets close out the season with a road trip to Buffalo and a home game against the Miami Dolphins.
The final two games could well decide who wins the East. Overall, I think we see the Jets end the season with an 11-6 record.
Predicting the Jets will finish with an 11-6 record at the end of the regular season.
This should secure them a Wild Card spot in the playoffs, with the Bills winning the East.
As far as winning the conference goes, that still feels like a long shot, especially with the likes of the Ravens, Chiefs, and Bengals likely in their way.

2022 Jets Win/Loss Betting Prediction
The New York Jets project to be a better football team this season than last, but that doesn’t mean NYJ comes close to making the playoffs. Most believe the Jets play competitive football but because the Jets plays in the same division as Super Bowl chalk Buffalo, always tough New England, and much improved Miami, the win loss total for the Jets is 5 ½ games. Will NYJ win at least 6 games? Check out a Jets’ win loss total analysis along with a NFL Team Totals Betting prediction.
NY Jets 2022 NFL Season Betting Prediction: Win/Loss Record
2022-23 NFL Regular Season
- When: Sep. 8, 2022 – Jan. 8, 2023
- New York Jets Total Win / Loss Total Odds: 5 ½
Why the New York Jets will win more than 5 games
The Jets improved their defense big time. New York drafted Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson and signed former Bengal tight-end C.J. Uzomah.
NYJ also drafted Oklahoma State running back Breece Hall. Uzomah, Hall, and Wilson will start. In addition, the Jets’ offensive line has improved
Left tackle Noah Fant comes from Seattle. Right guard Laken Tomlinson played in San Francisco last season while center Connor McGovern played at Denver.
Right tackle Mekhi Becton is solid. So is starting right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker. The only question is whether Zach Wilson takes the next step. With so many weapons, the chances are Wilson doesn’t just take the next step, he also takes the step after the next.
Why the New York Jets won’t win more than 5 games
The schedule is as brutal as it gets. The Jets start the season playing against three straight AFC North teams: the Baltimore Ravens in their first game, the Cleveland Browns in their second, Cincinnati in their third, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in their fourth.
Then after tackling the AFC North, the Jets must throw down versus Miami at home before back-to-back road games at Green Bay and Denver.
Home games versus New England and Buffalo. There’s a good chance that the Jets are 2-7 at best, 0-9 at worst, or 1-8 before their week 10 bye.
Final Betting Analysis: Will the New York Jets win at least 6 games?
The Jets have improved. But the Jets didn’t just improve on offense. They also improved on defense.
First round pick DE Jermaine Johnson should make an immediate impact. So will strong safety Jordan Whitehead, who lands in New York after playing at Tampa last season, and free safety D.J. Reed, who headed to the Jets after calling Seattle home in 2021.
Based on defensive and offensive improvements, the New York Jets should win at least 6 games.
Let’s say the Jets win the home games they should win. NYJ beats the Chicago Bears on Nov. 27, the Detroit Lions on Dec. 18, and the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 16. If NYJ does win those games, that’s 3 wins.
So where will the other 3 wins come from? The Jets could beat the Ravens at home in week 1. If Deshaun Watson doesn’t play, NYJ could beat the Browns in week 2.
Now we’re up to 5 wins. Where will the other win come from? The Jets have a chance versus Seattle on Jan. 1 or New England at home on Oct. 30. NYJ could win both, which means the Jets will win 7 games this season.
The potential for 8 to 9 wins is there. The New York Jets improved during the offseason more than any other NFL team. If the offensive line can protect Zach Wilson, he could have a pro bowl season. So don’t sleep on the Jets.
