The Detroit Lions will look to avoid a winless mark in the preseason when they hit the road to take on the Cleveland Browns in their Week 4 preseason finale on Thursday, live from FirstEnergy Stadium. With both of these teams looking to reach the postseason after getting left on the outside looking in a year ago, let’s find out where the best value lies in this matchup.

Head-to-Head Trends

  • Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.

Why Bet On Detroit at +4.5?

The Lions fell to 0-3 in preseason by suffering a narrow, 24-20 loss against Buffalo the last time out. Matthew Stafford went 12 of 19 for 137 yards with one touchdown in his forst action of the preseason while backup Josh Johnson went 5 of 10 for 71 yards and third-stringer David Fales went 3 of 8 for 22 yards.

“It’s an interesting feeling, going out there,” Stafford said. “You prepare as hard as you can to play and you’re hoping nothing too bad happens.”

Running back Mark Thompson rushed eight times for 34 yards and one score in the loss, but the Lions suffered two crucial losses as linebacker Jarrad Davis was carted off the field in the first quarter with an injured right leg and center Frank Ragnow injured his right knee later on.

Why Bet On Cleveland at -4.5?

The Browns were on the wrong end of a humbling 13-12 loss to Tampa Bay in Week 3 as Baker Mayfield was limited to an uninspiring 10 for 26 passing day for just 72 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Backups, Drew Stanton and David Blough combined to go 6 of 13 for 60 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, although starting wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry both sat out.

“It’s a very easy one to use, to say that we don’t have them out there,” Mayfield said. “Right now we’re looking for people to step up, who’s going to be the consistent number three and four. That’s the frustrating part. We expected people to do their job no matter who it is.”

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Lions vs Browns

The Lions have gone 6-1-1 in their last eight games on grass and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games overall while Cleveland has gone 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. While I’m certainly not expecting the Lions to be a better team than the Browns in 2019, I do like Detroit to get the confidence-boosting road upset in this one out of sheer desperation, if nothing else. Browns’ backup quarterbacks Drew Stanton and David Blough are completely and utterly mediocre and I’m expecting veteran Josh Johnson to be the best quarterback on the field in this affair. Again, I’m going with the Lions in a knock-down, drag-out brawl!
