NFL Rumors & News: J.J. Watt Might End Up In Cleveland

Written by on February 23, 2021

Every year during the NFL preseason, there always seems to be one or two teams that dominate the headlines. Given the QB carousel that we are already seeing in motion, there are several teams making news, but you do have to say that a lot of the chatter right now is surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers and their salary cap issues. They are certainly not the only team with that problem, but given their QB situation and their iconic status in the league, it is perhaps no real surprise that they are at the heart of the news, so let’s talk about a couple of their issues to get started with. That being said, let’s jump right into action so you can keep betting against their NFL odds.

NFL Rumors & Betting News February 23rd Edition

The first piece of news out of the Steel City is that head coach Mike Tomlin has tested positive for COVID-19. That may not seem like a major piece of news given that we are in the offseason, but it may well have an impact on the bigger issue in Pittsburgh right now. That would be the situation with Ben Roethlisberger, who is looking to play another season, but who may not get his wish, as least in a Steelers uniform. Tomlin was scheduled to meet with Big Ben and Art Rooney II last week to discuss the QB’s future, but there is no word on whether or not that meeting took place. This is a story we will be keeping an eye on.

One of the biggest names on the free agent market right now is J.J. Watt, who was recently released by the Houston Texans. There was talk that he might end up in Pittsburgh to play alongside his brothers, but the rumor is that he is very much interested in a move to the Cleveland Browns. Playing with another AFC North team would mean that he would get to see his brothers on the field a couple of times per season. There is real interest in Watt from other teams, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

One player that has been quiet during all the offseason craziness is Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Conversations about a new long-term contract were shelved after Prescott suffered a horrific injury last season, with the latest rumors suggesting that there has been no progress made on putting together a new deal. It would perhaps be a bit of a surprise to see the Cowboys pony up a big offer to a player coming off a serious injury. The feeling is that Prescott will get hit with the franchise tag this season.

We all believed that we knew the status of Drew Brees once the season ended, with most fans and insiders believing that the Saints QB was all set to retire. Coach Sean Payton said that it would probably take a week or so for Brees to make the call, yet here we are almost at the end of February and still waiting for official word. Saints players have come out and said that they have no idea what is going on, but the belief among some now is that seeing Brady win it all again at 43 might just lure Brees into one more season under center.
