Eagles fans hoping to get one last look at rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, are probably going to be disappointed as Wentz is likely to miss the team’s preseason finale with his rib injury. Philly is favored over the visiting Jets on NFL lines.

Jets vs Eagles Series History

Last year the Jets beat the visiting Eagles 24-18 in the preseason with first-half touchdown receptions by Chris Owusu and Zac Stacy from Matt Flynn (no longer with team). Daryl Richardson and Stacy combined for 216 rushing yards. Rookie LB Deion Barnes had 1.5 sacks, all of Eagles QB Tim Tebow, the former Jet in 2012. The win improved the Jets’ all-time preseason record against the Eagles to 23-14, and 11-3 in the last 14 meetings. Two of those three losses came in their last two visits to Lincoln Financial Field, by 28-10 in ’12 and 37-7 in ’14. The Jets took the previous five in a row in Philly and are 11-7 all-time on the road in the preseason vs. the Eagles. These teams also played in Week 3 of the 2015 regular season with the Eagles winning 24-17 at the Jets. Darren Sproles sparked the Eagles with an 89-yard punt return for a score and added a 1-yard touchdown run, and the Philly defense caused four turnovers. Sam Bradford threw a TD pass to Ryan Mathews, who also rushed for 108 yards on 25 carries. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw touchdown passes to Brandon Marshall and Jeremy Kerley, but was intercepted three times.

Why Bet on New York?

The Jets come off a 21-20 home loss to the Giants to fall to 1-2 in the preseason. Fitzpatrick finished 9 of 16 for 76 yards with a TD and lost a fumble in the red zone before being replaced by Geno Smith just before halftime. Jets second-rounder Christian Hackenberg made his NFL debut and was 4 of 6 for 79 yards on his first NFL drive, capping it with a 10-yard TD throw to Robby Anderson. He was also intercepted by Andrew Adams with 2:34 left. Hackenberg finished 6 of 16 for 105 yards for the Jets (1- 2). Marshall was held out of the Jets’ third preseason game due to a “sore hip”and you aren’t going to see him here. Despite making a 55-yard field goal vs. the Giants, Ross Martin is out of a job. The undrafted rookie was released by the Jets. It means incumbent Nick Folk has withstood another challenge. The Jets released 11 players overall and placed WR Devin Smith (knee) on reserve/PUP list. It means he’s shelved for at least six games. The 10 other than Martin released were G Jarvis Harrison (5th round pick, 2015), WR Kyle Williams, G Jesse Davis, C Kyle Friend, LB Deion Barnes, DT Shelby Harris, DE Helve Matungulu, RB Lache Seastrunk, RB Terry Williams, TE Jason Vander Laan. The roster stands at 78. They have to make three moves by Tuesday. Jets top linebacker David Harris hurt his shoulder vs. the Giants and won’t play here but should be ready for Week 1. Harris was hurt in a pileup at the end of the second quarter Saturday night. The Jets haven’t played without Harris since 2008, his second year in the NFL. Harris is coming off a 108-tackle season with 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Jets coach Todd Bowles says he plans to rest most of his starters for this game.

Why Bet on Philadelphia?

The Eagles are 3-0 this preseason after a 33-23 win at Indianapolis on Saturday. Bradford led the Eagles on three touchdown drives. He was 17 of 20 for 167 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception. Bradford played into the third quarter and led the Eagles to scores on four of their first six possessions. Cody Parkey missed an extra point, and he has likely lost the kicking job to Caleb Sturgis. Seeing his first action of the preseason, rookie running back Wendell Smallwood ran two times for 11 yards. The Eagles released receivers Rueben Randle and Chris Givens on Sunday. Going into training camp, Randle and Givens looked like possible starters, and were penciled in for spots among the five or so wide receivers who ultimately will make the 53-man roster. Along with veteran defensive tackle Mike Martin, they were the biggest surprises among Sunday’s cuts. Meanwhile, a CT scan of Wentz’s ribs revealed that a hairline fracture has not totally healed, Eagles coach Doug Pederson revealed Monday, meaning the rookie quarterback is unlikely to suit up for the preseason finale against the Jets. “He had the two ribs there, so the 10th one is completely healed and the 11th one still shows about 60 percent, so there’s still some injury there with him going forward,” Pederson said. Wentz will “probably not” play given where he is in the healing process, Pederson said. The last two times the Eagles won their first three preseason games, they went a combined 11-21 and the coach was fired at the end of the season.
