The Oakland Raiders will be looking to remain unbeaten when they host a visiting Green Bay Packers team that will be playing franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the first time this preseason. Why Bet On the Packers?

The Packers got past Houston 28-26 in their preseason opener two weeks ago, but they came crashing back to earth in their humbling 26-13 loss to Baltimore last weekend. Third-string quarterback Tim Boyle went 12 of 21 for 107 yards and one touchdown while backup DeShone Kizer went 5 of 10 for 70 yards in the loss. The Packers are coming off an uninspiring 6-9-1 season in 2018 and will be playing for a first-time head coach in former  Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. Now, heading into Week 3, the Packers are hoping to see Rodgers in action, though it’s apparently not etched in stone at this point.

“I think we’d like to see him, but you’re talking about a veteran quarterback that’s played a lot of football,” LaFleur said. “I don’t think it’s a necessity, but it’s certainly something we’d like to see.”

Why Bet On the Raiders?

The Raiders improved to 2-0 on the preseason by downing Arizona 33-26 the last time out after taking out the L.A. Rams 14-3 in their scrimmage opener two weeks ago. Veteran backup Mike Glennon was rock-solid in going 11 for 14 for 175 yards and two touchdowns while third-stringer Nathan Peterman went a perfect 8 for 8 for 41 yards. Starting quarterback Derek Carr went a modest 2 for 2 for 40 yards and a touchdown in his brief appearance. Oakland is looking to improve in Year 2 of their franchise rebuild after going a dismal 4-12 under Jon Gruden last season.

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Packers vs Raiders

Green Bay might be an impressive 4-0-1 ATS in their last five preseason games as a road dog of three points or less, but the Packers are also a discouraging 0-3-1 ATS in their last four preseason games. While Oakland has gone a dismal 0-4 ATS in their last four preseason games as a home favorite of three points or less, the raiders have also won and covered the chalk in three straight scrimmage games at home while being favored by 3.5 points or more.

Besides those ATS numbers, I like the way the Raiders have looked throughout the preseason and they’ve got two solid preseason performances out of backups, Mike Glennon and…wait for it…the previously incompetent Nathan Peterman. While the Packers managed to squeak past Houston in their opener, they got humbled by Baltimore last weekend and third-string signal-caller Tim Boyle has looked better than schedule backup DeShone Kizer if you ask me.

I don’t like the Packers chances in 2019 and I believe they are completely and utterly overrated, seeing as how they’ve got a first-time head coach and a bunch of issues to address and a lack of talent on both sides of the ball. Oakland wins and covers the chalk for preseason-loving head coach Jon Gruden.
