Why Bet On New England at -1?

The Patriots looked rock-solid in their emphatic 31-3 beatdown over Detroit in Week 1. While starting quarterback Tom Brady sat, rookie backup Jarrett Stidham completed 14 of 24 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown while veteran backup Brian Hoyer went 12 of 14 for 147 yards and two scores. Rookie running back Nick Brossette rushed for a team-high 66 yards and one score on 22 carries and rookie wide receiver Jakobi Meyers had a team-high six catches for 69 yards and two scores.

“I have to keep proving to my coaches that I deserve to be here,” Meyers said. “I’m not on the team yet. I’m trying to make sure I can stay here and continue to be here. That’s who I’m trying to prove a point to, not really to people who didn’t give me the call.”

Defensively, the Patriots recorded a stunning nine sacks, two by second-year defensive end Derek Rivers and 1.5 from rookie defensive lineman Chase Winovich. Veteran defensive end John Simon added an interception and New England’s defense limited the Lions to just 93 yards of total offense in the win.

Why Bet On Tennessee at +1?

The Titans looked solid on both sides of the ball in their convincing 27-10 Week 1 scrimmage season win over Philadelphia last weekend. Starting quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 4 of 8 passes for 24 yards while backup Ryan Tannehill completed 12 of 16 passes for 130 yards and two scores while third-stringer Logan Woodside completed 15 of 20 passes for 138 yards and two more scores.

“It was a lot of fun to compete against another team,” Tannehill said. “We’ve been working hard since the spring and to have an opportunity to play for real was a lot of fun.”

Mariota played one series, but both Tennessee backups shined in a big way, including Woodside. Defensively, fourth-year cornerback LeShaun Sims had on sack while third-year cornerback Tye Smith had a team-high four tackles.

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Patriots vs Titans

Not only have the Patriots gone a blistering 19-8 ATS in their last 27 road games and 40-17 ATS in their last 57 games overall, but head coach Bill Belichick has gone 44-35 in the preseason in his career and an encouraging 11-8 in Week 2 preseason contests.

Tennessee is just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and while the Titans have managed to compile an encouraging 13-6-1 ATS mark in their last 20 home games, I like New England’s defense to shut down all of Tennessee’s quarterbacks in this one, including Marcus Mariota. With the Titans owning a discouraging 1-4 ATS mark under head coach Mike Vrabel, I say, keep it simple and back the defending champs to get it done in this one.
