The Dallas Cowboys have an opportunity to do something on Sunday afternoon that no other team can do, and that’s to go 0-4 in the preseason. Since the Cowboys played the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame game, they’re one of the two teams to play an extra exhibition game.
Things aren’t going much better for the Jacksonville Jaguars as they come into this one winless as well. One of these two will leave their matchup with one victory, as the Cowboys will host Urban Meyer’s Jaguars at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Let’s have a closer look at both teams so you can get ready to bet against their NFL Preseason odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Jaguars vs Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys Preview
The Cowboys are looking forward to the regular season. Dak Prescott should be ready for the regular season opener. Prescott will have an arsenal of weapons at his disposal. Even though Prescott has yet to play in the preseason, the Cowboys are expecting him to play in Week 1.
Dallas will be able to score a lot of points, but will they be able to stop their opponents from scoring more points? First-round pick Micah Parsons has looked good in camp thus far for the Dallas defense. Although they still have a ways to go, the Cowboys’ defense has looked improved throughout training camp.
We’re not sure how much the starters will play on Sunday. We’ll probably see a lot of Cowboys backup quarterback Ben DiNucci. DiNucci has looked good in the preseason. Even though the Dallas backups haven’t scored a lot in the preseason, DiNucci has played well.
Jacksonville Jaguars Preview
When Jacksonville drafted Trevor Lawrence with the top pick in the draft, it was assumed that Lawrence would be the clear-cut starter. Early in training camp, Urban Meyer announced that both Lawrence and Gardner Minshew would be competing for the starting spot. After battling throughout training camp, it was announced on Wednesday that Lawrence would be the starting signal-caller in Week 1 of the regular season.
Both Minshew and fellow backup CJ Beathard have played well in the preseason. Beathard has probably outplayed Minshew, as he has gone 22/30 for 223 yards and three touchdowns. We’ll more than likely see a lot of both of these quarterbacks on Sunday.
After it was announced that presumed starting running back Travis Etienne would miss a majority of the regular season with a foot injury, the Jaguars elevated James Robinson on the depth chart. Robinson had a stellar rookie season in 2020. He’s not as versatile as Etienne, but he’s a very strong runner.
Jacksonville had one of the worst defenses in the league last season. They’re hoping that their draft picks and free-agent acquisitions will bolster their defense this season. If they continue to play poorly, it will be a long season for Jacksonville.
Predictions
Neither team has played particularly well in the preseason. Jacksonville comes into this one as a three-point favorite. We’re going to pick Jacksonville to win this one and cover. With the strong play of their backup quarterbacks, Jacksonville should be able to put up some points on the lackluster Dallas defense.
