NFL Betting Preview for Raiders vs 49ers

NFL Preseason Week 4 – Las Vegas Raiders at San Francisco 49ers

Why bet on Las Vegas versus San Francisco

Nathan Peterman has started both games for the Raiders. There’s a good chance he starts this one as well because Jon Gruden doesn’t want to put either starter Derek Carr or backup Marcus Mariota in danger. Gruden has worked with Carr and Mariota this offseason to get them ready. If Peterman starts, Vegas will have a shot to win and cover. Peterman is undefeated in the preseason. Although he has been careless with the football, he’s also thrown some great passes, including touchdowns.

Why bet on San Francisco against Las Vegas

Trey Lance has played in both San Francisco preseason games. Although there’s a chance Lance steps under center in this one, there’s a better chance both he and Jimmy Garoppolo sit on the bench. The reason? Lance may not get the start in the first game, but Kyle Shanahan could start Lance in a few games this season. Expect Nate Sudfeld to step onto the field, which won’t be a bad thing. Sudfeld has starter’s experience and wants to prove he should dress on game days.

Final Betting Analysis: Las Vegas Raiders at San Francisco 49ers

Neither team will push their players in the final preseason game. One difference between the two coaches, though, should lead to us backing Vegas to cover.

While Kyle Shanahan will use the third preseason contest to fine tune his Super Bowl caliber squad, Jon Gruden will use the final game to fine tune his play-calling. Gruden must be ready in Week 1 more than his players.

Knowing that isn’t a weakness. It’s a strength. The Super Bowl winning coach understands that he may have to change things early in the season, not in personnel but in his approach if the Raiders hope to contend with a talented AFC West Division.

Because Gruden will be aggressive and try new things, the Raiders are the play.
