NFL Preseason Games To Must Watch and Wager On (Aug. 12 – Aug. 15)
NFL Preseason – Week 1
- When: Thursday, Aug. 12 – Sunday, Aug. 15
Washington Football Team -2 Vs New England Patriots
- When: Thursday, Aug. 12
If New England hopes to start Mac Jones at quarterback, they must play the former Alabama Crimson Tide in this. Jones has 3 games to prove he deserves the start over Cam Newton. Coach Bill Belichick made other big changes, like acquiring two of the best tight-ends in the NFL. He wants Jones to start, but he can’t unless Jones proves it on the field. Playing Jones could give the Patriots the edge.
NFL Pick: New England Patriots
Tennessee Titans -1 Vs Atlanta Falcons
- When: Friday, Aug. 13
Tennessee will challenge for the AFC crown. The Falcons should have a rebuilding year. Still, Atlanta plays the Titans at home, this is a preseason test, and tight-end Kyle Pitts requires playing time.
NFL Pick: Atlanta Falcons
Buffalo Bills -2 Vs Detroit Lions
- When: Friday, Aug. 13
Buffalo’s second-string quarterback, Mitch Trubisky, has starter experience. He led the Bears to the playoffs last season. The Lions won’t play Jared Goff. David Blough should get every snap, which means that even though this is a preseason game, the Bills roll.
NFL Pick: Buffalo Bills
Miami Dolphins Vs Chicago Bears -3 ½
- When: Friday, Aug. 13
Miami backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett figures to get the majority of the snaps. Brissett has played in the league for a while. He’s started a few games. The Bears won’t put Andy Dalton or first round draft pick, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, in danger. Give the nod to the Fins.
NFL Pick: Miami Dolphins
New Orleans Saints Vs Baltimore Ravens –3
- When: Saturday, Aug. 14
New Orleans will give Notre Dame star Ian Book plenty of playing time under center. When Ian Book doesn’t call plays, Trevor Siemian will. The Saints are likely to keep Siemian on the active roster. If Book stars on Saturday, though, he could land the third-string spot. The Ravens may not even try in this game, not after Lamar Jackson has already missed time due to a COVID positive.
NFL Pick: New Orleans Saints
Cleveland Browns Vs Jacksonville Jaguars -2
- When: Saturday, Aug. 14
Rookie coaches from the college ranks like Urban Meyer love to make a splash in their first NFL game. Yes, even if it’s a preseason game. Meyer will play Tim Tebow, maybe even Trevor Lawrence, his entire starting offensive line, and all of his starting defensive players. So expect the Jaguars to beat the Browns by 20 to 30 points and Jacksonville’s future odds to win the Super Bowl to dive to around +3000 even though we know the victory means nothing.
NFL Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars
Kansas City Chiefs Vs San Francisco 49ers -1 ½
- When: Saturday, Aug. 14
When was the last time Andy Reid played a starter during the preseason? If you said never, you’d be right. Okay, maybe, he played a starter for a few minutes in one preseason contest when he was the coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. Reid definitely won’t play the Super Bowl favorites starters in this. The 49ers cover by default.
NFL Pick: San Francisco 49ers
Seattle Seahawks Vs Las Vegas Raiders -1 ½
- When: Saturday, Aug. 14
The Seahawks must decide among three backup quarterbacks. Two, Geno Smith and Sean Mannion, are journeymen. The other, Alex McGough, played at Florida International. The Raiders may start former Titan Marcus Mariota. If Mariota has 25% of the talent he had when breaking into the league, Las Vegas should easily cover this spread.
NFL Pick: Marcus Mariota
Los Angeles Chargers Vs Los Angeles Rams -2
- When: Saturday, Aug. 14
Rams’ backup quarterback John Wolford has some talent. He tore up defenses in the short-lived American Football League back in 2018. Bolts’ fourth-string quarterback KJ Costello will have an edge, though. He gets to play with rookie left-tackle Rashawn Slater. Since LAR won’t allow Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey to go all out in this, the Chargers win SU.
NFL Pick: Los Angeles Chargers
Carolina Panthers Vs Indianapolis Colts -1 ½
- When: Sunday, Aug. 15
The Panthers have a deep group of quarterbacks. P.J. Walker and Will Grier are talented backups. The Colts can’t start Jacob Eason or Brett Hundley because Carson Wentz may be out for up to 12 weeks. Sam Ehlinger, Texas’ former gunslinger, will get the call. Panthers to win and cover looks like the best play.
NFL Pick: Carolina Panthers
