Game Preview & NFL Spread for Bills vs. Chargers in Week 11

Written by on November 17, 2017

This is the stage of the season when the teams who are ultimately going to be playoff bound put their foot on the gas pedal and pull away from the pack. There are a limited number of opportunities left to get the wins required to make it to the postseason, and a couple of losses in the next few weeks could ultimately mean a fruitless season for those who are on the outside looking in. As it stands at the moment, the Buffalo Bills are in the Wild Card, but they are not doing much to suggest that they have what it takes to stay there, just as the NFL spread for Week 11 indicates. They are coming into this one with back to back losses under their belt, not to mention some serious issues at the QB position. They will make a rare road trip out west this weekend to face an LA Chargers team that is 4-points favorite and somewhat unfortunate not to have a better record than their current 3-6 mark. Their first season in LA has not been great as far as crowds go, but a strong finish to the season may just convince the folks in the City of Angels that this team is worth following.

Why bet on the Buffalo Bills?

It was easy to overlook the offensive flaws of the Bills at the start of the season when they were winning, but much more difficult to do so over the last 2 weeks. It certainly didn’t help the cause that the Bills usually reliable defense went to sleep in the last two games, giving up a combined 81 points to the Jets and the Saints. Something needs to change to turn things around, and the coaching staff in Buffalo seem to think that putting rookie QB Nathan Peterman under center may well be the answer. It’s a move that can’t really hurt a team that is only averaging 180 YPG through the air this season, and with a good running game, the Bills may not need to ask too much of their young starter. Buffalo is not a particularly good bet ATS this season, going 1-3-1 in their last 5 overall, and 1-4-1 in their last 6 road games.

Why bet on the LA Chargers?

If you want to see the fine line between winning and losing in this league, just take a look at the box scores of the Chargers games this season. 6 of their 9 games have been decided by 5 points or less, and they are a team that could just as easily be 6-3 as opposed to their current 3-6. What that means is that they are not a team that should ever be taken lightly, and while they come into this one with back to back losses in their last two games, both defeats were very competitive outings against the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars, a pair of teams who look to be playoff bound. The Chargers have the NFL Spread for Week 11 by their side. The Chargers are missing a good RB that could change their offensive fortunes, as they are averaging less than 90 YPG on the ground, which makes them a little one-dimensional. The Chargers have won each of their last 5 games against Buffalo at home, and are 4-1 against the NFL spread in their last 5 games.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

It’s tough to know what Peterman is going to do in his first start, which I believe gives the Chargers a bit of an edge. The rookie is going to struggle at times, and mistakes may be his undoing. I’m going with LA to cover the NFL spread, and I’m also going with under. Score: Buffalo Bills 17 – LA Chargers 24
