Ravens Are the Favorite NFL Betting Pick Over Bears in Week 6

Ravens Are the Favorite NFL Betting Pick Over Bears in Week 6

Written by on October 11, 2017

The Chicago Bears haven’t had a Pro Bowl quarterback since Jim McMahon. It’s way too early to say rookie Mitch Trubisky will be a Pro Bowler someday, but he showed some good signs Monday in his first start. However, now he’s on a short week in Baltimore, which is a solid NFL betting favorite. The Bears are underdogs at +6.5.

Last Meeting

In Week 11 of the 2013 season, the Bears beat the visiting Ravens 23-20 in overtime. Robbie Gould (now gone) kicked a 38-yard field goal in overtime in a game delayed about two hours by a torrential downpour. Justin Tucker tied it for the Ravens with a 21-yard field goal at the end of regulation. Josh McCown was Chicago’s QB that day but he’s no longer there. How long ago was the game? Baltimore’s leading rusher was Ray Rice with 131 yards, and he’s now blackballed from the NFL.

NFL Week 6 Parlay Betting Picks & Game Previews

Why Bet On Chicago?

The Bears lost 20-17 on Monday against Minnesota to drop to 1-4. Trubisky finished the game 12-of-25 passing for 128 yards, one touchdown and one interception — a 60.1 quarterback rating — in his first start for the Bears. The interception was late in the game and led to Minnesota’s game-winning field goal. The pick came after the Bears took over on their 10 with 2:32 left in the game. Harrison Smith picked off a pass intended for Zach Miller on the right sideline at the 22. As expected, Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains called rollouts and bootlegs for Trubisky to maximize not only his quickness and athleticism outside the pocket, but also his accuracy. The Bears tried to capitalize on Trubisky’s mobility. Eight of Trubisky’s 25 pass attempts came outside the pocket. Trubisky’s predecessor, Mike Glennon, had four such throws in four games. Trubisky was just 6-of-16 passing on second and third down, with seven off-target throws. Trubisky attempted six passes traveling 15-plus yards downfield. Of those passes, two were complete for 38 yards and a 20-yard touchdown, two fell incomplete and two were negated by penalties. On paper, Chicago’s offense made little-to-no progress on Monday night as it accounted for only eight of the Bears’ 17 points, gained just 274 net yards and picked up 16 first downs. Jordan Howard rushed 19 times for 76 yards in the Bears’ loss. He wasn’t targeted in the passing game. Howard out-touched backfield mates Tarik Cohen (7) and Benny Cunningham (3) by a wide margin and has now seen at least 18 carries in three-straight games. The Bears are incredibly thin at linebacker. They have placed Willie Young on season-ending injured reserve with two other guys at the position. The eighth-year pro had two sacks in four games. Inside backer John Timu has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. Timu was carted off in Monday night’s loss to the Vikings.

Why Bet On Baltimore?

The Baltimore Ravens (3-2) ended a two-game skid with a 30-17 in Oakland. The Ravens had only three pass plays of at least 20 yards the first four games, including none the previous two weeks. But Joe Flacco and Mike Wallace connected on three: the 52-yarder on the first drive, a 54-yarder to set up a field goal in the second quarter, and the 27-yarder on third down in the third quarter. Flacco completed 19-of-26 passes for 222 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Once known as one of the league’s premier deep passers, Flacco has been conservative in recent years. He tried to shed that label in Week 5. Wallace nabbed three catches for 133 yards in the victory. The Ravens are the clear NFL betting favorites in Week 6. Buck Allen pounded the rock 21 times for 73 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches for 12 yards on five targets. Terrance West went down with a calf injury on the Ravens’ opening drive, opening the door for Allen to see his biggest workload of the season. Alex Collins played a role with 12 carries but Allen remained the go-to back on passing downs and also got all of Baltimore’s goal-line work. Baltimore scored twice on the ground on Sunday for the first time in nearly a year. The Ravens also topped 140 rushing yards for only the third time since Week 5 of 2015. Collins leads the NFL with a 7.1-yard-per-carry average, but the Ravens have been hesitant to give him the ball when they had the lead due to his fumbling issues (two turnovers in four games). West won’t play this week.
