The Baltimore Ravens were hit hard by injuries prior to the season. In Week 1 they lost a crazy Monday Night overtime affair at Las Vegas, but in Week 2 they showed everyone that they’re a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The Ravens overcame an 11-point 4th quarter deficit to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 36-35 to show everyone that the Chiefs have some competition in the AFC race.
As for the Detroit Lions, the Dan Campbell era hasn’t gotten off to a great start. Sitting at 0-2, the Lions are looking to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2015. So far, the Lions have lost to the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers.
These two teams will collide on Sunday afternoon at Ford Field in Detroit, as the Lions will play host to the Ravens. The Ravens are 5-3 in their last eight road games, while the Lions haven’t played well at home as of late, losing five straight at Ford Field. It’s time we take a closer look at the upcoming match between the Ravens and the Lions so you can bet against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Baltimore Ravens at Detroit
Detroit Lions Analysis
Even after losing Matthew Stafford, the Lions have the 4th-best scoring offense in the NFL, averaging 33 points per game. Quarterback Jared Goff is averaging 314 yards passing per game. While the Lions’ offense is holding up its the end of the bargain, we can’t say that for the defensive side of the ball.
The Lions’ defense has been brutalized by the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. Against San Francisco, the Lions’ defense gave up 442 yards and 41 points. They also gave up 35 points to the Green Bay Packers on some big plays. Until Detroit’s defense proves that it can stop someone, it could be a rough go for Detroit.
Baltimore Ravens Analysis
The Ravens, who are favored by nine in this one, have one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league in Lamar Jackson. Jackson is the top dual-threat signal-caller in the league. His heroics helped Baltimore beat the Chiefs.
We have to remember that Jackson is doing everything without his top two running backs and without a star wide receiver. JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards both tore their ACLs, while Hollywood Brown and Sammy Watkins are the team’s top receivers. Mark Andrews is one of the top tight ends in the league, and Jackson relies heavily on him.
Defensively, many thought that the Ravens would have one of the top units in the NFL. However, they’ve struggled early on, giving up a boatload of points to the Raiders and Chiefs. They’re allowing 34 points and 448 yards per game. If Baltimore wants to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, they’ll need things to get better on the defensive side of the ball.
Prediction
While we like the Ravens to win the game, we don’t think they’ll cover the nine-point spread. After beating the Chiefs, we expect a letdown from the Ravens. Even though Detroit’s defense has been abysmal, we think that they’ll step up to the challenge and slow down Jackson and the Ravens. The Ravens win 31-24.
