While the NFL season is over, front office personnel don’t really take a lot of time off. We are already seeing trades being made and mock drafts being posted all over the internet. Every team in the league, including the defending champions, want to get better, and that means working on adding new players and replacing those who move on in the offseason. With that in mind, it is perhaps no real surprise that most of the news and rumors coming out of the NFL right now is about potential trades and where free agents might land. We will focus on all of that and more in this week’s roundup. With that in mind, let’s jump right into action so you can continue getting ready to make your bets against their NFL odds for the upcoming season.
NFL Rumors & Betting News February 16th Edition
There are a lot of eyes looking in the direction of Houston, as we all wait to see how the DeShaun Watson situation will play out. While we wait for that and hear all kinds of rumors about where he might end up, another former Texan is making waves in the free agent market. J.J. Watt and the Texans agreed to part ways a few days ago and now the rumor mill is in full swing. The chatter seems to be about Watt joining his brothers in Pittsburgh, but given the cap issues the Steelers have, that looks to be a longshot. Green Bay and Tampa are also possible destinations for Watt.
While a lot of QBs are rumored to be on the move this offseason, one that came out of nowhere was the Russell Wilson situation. While appearing on the Dan Patrick Show, Wilson admitted that he was frustrated with the amount of hits he has been taking while also suggesting that he might be available for a trade. It was a statement that apparently did not sit well with the Seahawks front office. The rumor is that not all is well between the QB and the team and that a trade might be what makes most sense for all involved. This is a story we will be monitoring closely.
Speaking of QBs on the move, it would seem that Carson Wentz moving on from the Philadelphia Eagles is a trade that is imminent. The Eagles are claiming that they have yet to receive a meaningful offer for Wentz, but all signs seem to point to him ending up in Chicago with the Bears. The Eagles, though, may decide to stand pat for now and see how the QB carousel plays out this offseason, as that might give them a better shot at getting the return they think they deserve for Wentz.
We close this week out with some sad news from the world of the NFL. Former WR Vincent Jackson, who played with the Chargers and Buccaneers during his time in the league, was found dead in a hotel room in Florida a couple of days ago. Jackson was just 38 years of age and as yet, we do not know the cause of death, although the Sheriff’s Office did reveal that there were no signs of trauma at the scene.
