A Closer Look At The San Diego Chargers At Denver Broncos Week 8 NFL Winning Favorites

When: Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 4:05 PM ET Where: Sports Authority Field at Mile High TV: CBS Live Stream: CBS Sports Network NFL Odds: Denver Broncos -4.5 / Over/Under: 45

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers have won two straight games and come into this contest off a thrilling 33-30 overtime win against Atlanta that saw running back Melvin Gordon rush 22 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Philip Rivers completed 27-of-44 passes for 371 yards and one touchdown. For the season, Rivers has thrown for 2,018 yards and 13 touchdowns while Gordon has rushed for a team-high 461 yards and eight touchdowns. The San Diego Chargers are averaging a stellar 29. 4 points per game to rank second in scoring but are giving up 26.4 points per game defensively to rank 24th in points allowed.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos snapped their two-game losing streak by pounding the Houston Texans and former backup quarterback Brock Osweiler completely into submission in their commanding 27-9 win last weekend. Quarterback Trevor Siemian completed 14-of-25 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown while running back CJ Anderson rushed 16 times for 107 yards and one score. For the season, Siemian has thrown for 1,211 yards and eight touchdowns while Anderson has rushed for a team-high 437 yards and four scores. The Broncos are averaging 23.8 points per game to rank 13th in scoring while limiting the opposition to 16.7 points per game to rank sixth in points allowed.

Expert Prediction and Pick

I know the Denver Broncos are playing at home and have one of the best defenses in all of football, but I like Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers to cover the spread in this Week 8 showdown. I know the Bolts are just 2-8 SU in their last 10 meetings against the Orange Crush, but they managed to beat the Broncos one last season and I believe they can do it again. While the Chargers enter this matchup with a 3-4 record through seven games, there’s no denying the fact that the Bolts could very well be 6-1 or 5-2. Case in point…each of the Chargers three losses prior to their current winning streak all came by four points or less. While the Broncos have gone 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win, the Chargers have gone a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and an even more impressive 6-0 ATS in their last six games against their AFC West division rivals. Last but not least, San Diego is a blistering 8-1 ATS in their last nine games against their AFC rivals and a scorching 9-1 ATS in their last 10 road games. After suffering a string of bad luck early in the season, I say the ball bounces their way for the third straight week as they pull off the huge road upset.

Pick: San Diego 24 Denver 21
