Every team, even the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the defending Super Bowl champions, know that they need to make changes to get better. Building a team in the salary cap era is never easy, as some tough decisions need to be made about who stays and who moves on. The transactions are already well underway, with some teams definitely getting an upgrade after just one week of free agency. Player Movement and Possible Future Moves
You have to feel a certain level of sympathy for the Seattle Seahawks and how their season ended last year. This was a team that was firing on all cylinders before the injury bug came around and took a big bite out of the lineup. The Seahawks lost their final 2 games of the season, which ultimately cost them the division, and while the made out of the Wild Card Game, they lost to the Packers in the Divisional Round.
Given that Seattle had some serious injury woes to contend with last year, it is perhaps no surprise that their first free agent move was to pick up a veteran for some depth. They jumped right in as soon as a Greg Olsen was released by the Carolina Panthers. He will provide some needed cover at the tight end spot, as Will Dissly has now had serious injuries in consecutive seasons.
LT George Fant left the Seahawks to head to The Big Apple to sign with the New York Jets as a free agent, but Seattle filled that hole quite quickly, signing Cedric Ogbuehi from the Jacksonville Jaguars. RT Germain Ifedi is unlikely to return to the Seahawks next season, which might well explain why they went out and picked up Brandon Shell. There are expected to be a few more departures on the O-line for the Seahawks, so they are doing what they can to fill those holes before they appear, with B.J Finney also coming in as a free agent.
The Seahawks still have a ton of work to do, with job 1 being ensuring that they bolster their O-line so that Russell Westbrook gets the protection he needs to be efficient.
