Analysis:
Okay NFL gamers, if you didn’t know, the favorite has managed to win cover the spread in just two of the last 10 Super Bowls. Stop rubbing your eyes…you read it correctly. Favorites have managed to bring home the bacon just twice in the last 10 Super Bowls!
Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts cashed in as 7-point favorites against Rex Grossman and the Chicago Bears in their 29-17 win in Super Bowl 41 while Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers also covered the spread as 3-point favorites in their 31-25 title win over Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Not only that, but favorites have also lost six Super Bowls straight up with the New England Patriots falling to Eli Manning and the Giants twice as favorites in 2008 and 2012 and the Colts, 49ers, Denver Broncos and Panthers also losing outright as favorites.
Last year, with the Carolina Panthers favored to win Super Bowl 50 by five points and Cam Newton running off at the mouth, Von Miller and Denver’s voracious defense ‘put the clamps’ on Newton to help Peyton Manning ride off into the sunset with a Super Bowl ring, As for Newton, he was left fuming at having to answer questions from the media…which….as we all know by now, he clearly wasn’t up to.
In Super Bowl 49, the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots were listed as a Pick ‘Em. One year earlier, in Super Bowl 48, Manning and the Broncos were favored by 2.5 points, but looked and played nothing like favorites in getting blown out of the water by Russell Wilson and Seattle’s Legion Of Boom. To this day…I swear the Seahawks let Denver score once so they could at least have some sort of pride coming out of the blowout.
In the end, what you need to know is that Favorites have compiled an uninspiring 2-7-1 ATS mark over the last 10 Super Bowls.
