Super Bowl LV Contenders & Pretenders Update

Super Bowl LV Contenders & Pretenders Update Nov. 13

Written by on November 13, 2020

Every team in the NFL has now played at least half of their regular season schedule, which means that it’s a perfect time to start seriously talking about potential Super Bowl contender and pretenders. There is, of course, only one team that can win it all, but there are a few who are seeing their odds improve as the season progresses. As we have seen in the past, though, teams can fall apart in the second half. Teams can get cold or injuries can start to pile up. That is all rather tough to predict, but we can look at the current odds and make a guess as to whether the top teams are legitimate contenders or wannabe pretenders. Let’s take a closer look at the current favorites, along with their odds to win the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs (+350)

The defending Super Bowl champions are 8-1 and looking like a team that is more than ready to defend their crown. Patrick Mahomes is once again putting up some staggering numbers and is setting a pace that will see him take down all kinds of QB records by the time his career is over. This is a team that isn’t really weak in any position, so it’s tough to imagine them not making a deep run.

Prediction – CONTENDER

Pittsburgh Steelers (+550)

The biggest question heading into this season was the health of Ben Roethlisberger, who missed most of last season with an elbow injury that required major surgery. He looks to be as good as new, leading Pittsburgh to a perfect 8-0 record. They are coming of a stretch that saw them play 3 straight games on the road while basically losing their bye week. If the Steelers D holds strong, look out.

Prediction – CONTENDER

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+600)

This is a team that went from obscurity to Super Bowl contender when it was announced that Tom Brady was signing on the dotted line. They have also now just added Antonio Brown into the mix, but you have to be concerned about his antics and how it might play out in the second half. They have also now lost twice to the Saints this season.

Prediction – PRETENDER

New Orleans Saints (+700)

There were some concerns about Brees and the Saints after an up and down start to the season, but they are now in the groove that we all expected before the season began. They look like the team most likely to take the #1 seed in the NFC now that they have toppled the Buccaneers twice. They too are stacked from top to bottom.

Prediction – CONTENDER

Baltimore Ravens (+800)

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens finished the season with the best record in football, but that did not translate to success in the playoffs, as they fell at the first hurdle. The Ravens have not been as explosive this season, but they have still managed to put together a 6-2 record. The downside is that they have lost to the Chiefs and the Steelers, teams they are likely to face in the postseason.

Prediction – PRETENDER
