Tennessee Titans NFL Odds After Free Agency Week 1

Written by on March 25, 2020

In sports, you are only ever as good as your last season, which means that teams who had a great year in 2019 are not guaranteed that same success this coming year. Players that were an integral part of that success will move on, leaving teams looking for worthy successors who can help a team take the next big step. That is what free agency is all about, as teams look to build a squad of talented players, and all without putting themselves in serious cap trouble in years to come. That is where the Tennessee Titans are at right now, as they look to build on a season that saw them make it all the way to the AFC Conference Championship Game, where they lost to the eventual winners of the Super Bowl. Much of their early activity in free agency has been in locking players down and dumping high-priced veterans to free up some cap space. Here’s an overview of the Tennessee Titans and their NFL Odds as it stands.

Player Movement and Possible Future Moves

The Tennessee Titans snuck into the playoffs last season with a 9-7 record and a spot in the Wild Card that took them on the road to face the New England Patriots. No-one gave them much of a shot there, but they surprised everyone by getting the win and going on a run that saw them make it all the way to the conference finals. They came up a little short in that one, but it became clear to all that this might well be a team on the brink of something big.

Despite the fact that Ryan Tannehill played a huge role in the success of the Titans last season after taking the starting job from Marcus Mariota, there was still talk that Tennessee be the eventual landing spot for Tom Brady. That talk was quickly put to rest by coach Mike Vrabel, a friend and former teammate of Brady’s, as the Titans inked Tannehill to a lucrative 4-year deal.

Another player that they needed to get signed in a big way was RB Derrick Henry, as he almost single handedly won the opening two games of the postseason last year. The Titans used the franchise tag on Henry, but they may well go back and try to ink him to a long-term deal after getting rid of a ton of salary and creating over $20 million in cap space in the process. Tennessee did make another couple of moves, the first of which was to bring in LB Vic Beasley from the Atlanta Falcons. They also went out and picked up OT Dennis Kelly, who will slid into the spot opened up by the departure of Jack Conklin. It was a money saving deal that should not have a huge impact on that position.

With a ton of cap space still available, you can bet that the Titans are not yet finished shopping, so look for more moves coming from them soon.

Tennessee Titans Odds to Win the Super Bowl

Was last season’s playoff success a bit of a fluke, or is it a sign that the Tennessee Titans are close to making a major breakthrough? If you think it’s the latter, they might well be worth a look at their current odds of +2200.
