Giants Are Slight NFL Betting Favorites vs. Lions on Monday

Why Bet the Tennessee Titans at +1.5?

The Tennessee Titans made some nice additions to their offense in the offseason, but they failed to get going in their humbling 26-16 Week 1 loss against Oakland last weekend. Despite adding veteran receiver Eric decker and drafting wide receiver Corey Davis with the fifth overall pick in the draft to go along with incumbent wide receiver Rishard Matthews and tight end Delanie Walker, quarterback Marcus Mariota completed just 25 of 41 passes for 256 yards while failing to throw a TD pass in the loss. Mariota did score Tennessee’s only touchdown on a 10-yard scramble during the first quarter, but the Titans could only muster up three field goals after that. “We didn’t do a good job (scoring touchdowns in the red zone) in Week 1,” Walker said. “In Week 2, that’s one thing we have to make sure we do a lot better. We have to put points on board, and I don’t mean field goals. I mean touchdowns.” The Titans also saw their powerful rushing attack from last season struggle as DeMarco Murray was limited to just 44 yards on 12 carries and backup derrick Henry picked up a modest 25 yards on six carries. Defensively, Tennessee allowed Oakland quarterback Derek Carr to toss two TD passes in the loss while giving up 76 rushing yards to veteran running back Marshawn Lynch in his return from a one-year retirement. Now the Titans will take on a Jacksonville team that shined in Week 1. “They played extremely well,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said after watching film of the Jaguars’ defense. “(They were) relentless and very well-coordinated. Not a lot of guys out of place. It was very impressive.”

Why Bet the Jacksonville Jaguars at +1.5?

The Jaguars jumped all over the Houston Texans in their stunning 29-7 Week 1 win while covering the NFL betting line as a 6-point road underdog. Enigmatic quarterback Blake Bortles completed 11 of 21 passes for 125 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions while rookie running back Leonard Fournette rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries. Wide receiver Allen Hurns caught a team-high three passes for 42 yards, but the Jags saw No. 1 wideout Allen Robinson lost for the season after he tore his ACL on the Jaguars’ first possession of the game. The Jaguars are slight underdogs in the betting odds for NFL Week 2. “Allen is a special player — everybody knows that,” Bortles said. “The preseason, the camp he’s had, what kind of talent he is. He’s an unbelievable playmaker and a really good teammate. (A) great guy to have around, so it’s going to hurt.” Defensively, Jacksonville was mostly phenomenal in limiting Houston to just 110 passing yards and 93 rushing yards. The Jaguars forced four turnovers, including a fumble that was returned by defensive end Dante Fowler for a 53-yard touchdown. “Guys came in and went right back to work,” Jacksonville linebacker Telvin Smith said.”We’re truly ready to get out there and keep pushing each other and see how far we can take this thing.”

NFL Week 2 Analysis and Prediction

Prior to the regular season, I didn’t give the Jaguars much hope of winning many games, but after seeing them in Week 1, I think they’re the pick to win and cash in at home in Week 2 against a Tennessee team I thought could win the AFC South this season. The Titans are just 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 road games and 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 road dates against Jacksonville, more importantly, the Titans have looked pretty abysmal on offense throughout the preseason and that carried over into Week 1. I’m expecting another heavy dose of running back Leonard Fournette, very little passing from Blake Bortles and another solid defensive effort to help the Jags get the win and ATS cover. The home team has won six straight meetings between these two and Jacksonville will make it seven straight by ba ging this one! NFL Week 2 Pick: Jacksonville -1.5
