Top NFL Picks for Week 13

Written by on November 28, 2017

You know things are going good for your team if the main worry is that you are blowing too many people out! That seems to be the only criticism of the Philadelphia Eagles, who have the best record in the NFL. But there’s a train of thought that it would be good for Philly to play a few close games to get ready for the postseason. I suppose there’s merit to that. I expect the Eagles to be in a very close game this Sunday night in Seattle. I’ll have a preview of that later this week, but here are two top other NFL picks for Week 13 with their latest Week 13 odds : New England at Buffalo and Carolina at New Orleans.

Top NFL Picks for Week 13

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints NFL Odds & Game Info

When: Sunday, 4:25 PM ET Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans TV: Fox Radio: (Carolina) WBT 1110 AM / WWL 870 AM (New Orleans) Stream Option: NFL Live Opening NFL Lines: Saints -4 (48)

Why Bet On Carolina?

The Panthers rallied for a 35-27 win at the New York Jets on Sunday. Linebacker Luke Kuechly had a 34-yard fumble-return touchdown with 12:05 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers the lead and Kaelin Clay added a 60-yard punt-return touchdown with 9:54 left to extend Carolina’s lead. It marked the second time in franchise history – and first since the club’s inaugural 1995 season (October 8, 1995 against Chicago) – in which the Panthers scored two return touchdowns in the fourth quarter of a game. That win moved the Panthers into a tie for first in the NFC South with New Orleans at 8-3. Cam Newton completed 11-of-28 passes for 168 yards while contributing 28 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. He was sacked three times for a loss of 14 yards. Newton looked out of sync with his receivers for much of the day, though he did have success throwing to Devin Funchess, who finished with 108 yards on seven catches. The former MVP rushed for a touchdown in the second quarter and should have thrown for one later in the same period but missed a wide-open Greg Olsen in the back of the end zone. Funchess jammed his toe in Sunday’s win, but says he will play through the issue going forward. Olsen left with a foot injury – he had just returned from missing several weeks with a broken foot. But Olsen says he’s fine and X-rays were negative. With Kelvin Benjamin no longer on the team and Curtis Samuel (I.R., ankle), the Panthers have become dangerously thin on pass-catchers.

Why Bet On New Orleans?

The Saints saw their eight-game winning streak end in a 26-20 loss at the Rams on Sunday. However, running backs Alvin Kamara (188 scrimmage yards, two touchdowns) and Mark Ingram (36 scrimmage yards) combined for 224 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. Kamara (1,094 scrimmage yards, nine touchdowns) and Ingram (1,055 scrimmage yards, eight touchdowns) are the first running back teammates to each have at least 1,000 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns in a team’s first 11 games in the Super Bowl era. Drew Brees completed 22-of-32 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown. Brees was nearly shut out of the end zone but found Kamara for a 15-yard score with 1:45 remaining. It ended up being the Saints’ final play on offense. Brees was lucky to escape without multiple interceptions, as he threw a number of balls almost right to the Rams. The future Hall-of-Famer has not had a three-touchdown game since Week 3. Tight end Coby Fleener suffered a concussion in the loss. He was flattened by a helmet-to-helmet hit from Rams DB Blake Countess in the fourth quarter. Somehow, Fleener was allowed to remain in the game for a few plays. It was only then that he was evaluated for and diagnosed with the concussion. He’s questionable for Week 13. The Saints beat the Panthers 34-13 in Week 3 behind three Brees TD passes. They also picked off Cam Newton three times. It’s pretty much a no brainer if your consider it for your NFL picks.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills NFL Odds & Game Info

When: Sunday, 1 PM ET Where: New Era Field, Buffalo TV: CBS Radio: 98.5 FM (New England) / WCMF 96.5 FM (Buffalo) Stream Option: DirecTV to Go Opening NFL Lines: Patriots -7.5 (49)

Why Bet On New England?

The Patriots are 9-2 following their 35-17 win over Miami on Sunday. 2. The Patriots clinched their 17th consecutive season with a winning record, the longest streak since 1970, surpassing the previous record of 16 held by the 1970-1985 Dallas Cowboys and 1983-1998 San Francisco 49ers. Tom Brady threw four touchdown passes with one interception for a 114.1 passer rating in today’s win. Brady, who turned 40 years old in August, has 26 touchdown passes this season, the most by a quarterback in a single season at the age of 40 or older. Brady has 27 career games with at least four touchdown passes and one or fewer interceptions, surpassing Peyton Manning (26) for the second-most in NFL history. Only Drew Brees (28) has more such games. Rob Gronkowski caught 5-of-8 targets for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Dion Lewis rushed 15 times for 112 yards. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy will be questionable for Week 13 with a calf injury. Van Noy is expected to miss only one game if he ends up sitting out against the Bills. An 11-game starter so far this season, Van Noy’s five sacks are second only to Trey Flowers in New England. The Patriots believe leading special teams tackler Nate Ebner tore his ACL. He is a core special teamer whose role will likely take multiple players to fill. New England just about always beats Buffalo if Brady is playing. The teams split last year. Buffalo won 16-0 when Brady was out suspended. He has beaten the Bills a whopping 26 times. So, there shouldn’t be any doubt on who to bet on for your NFL picks.

Why Bet On Buffalo?

The Bills (6-5) are very much alive in the wild-card chase and ended a three-game skid with a 16-10 upset at Kansas City on Sunday. After being benched the week before, Tyrod Taylor was back at QB and avoided any major mistakes. He completed 19-of-29 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown. Taylor added nine carries for 27 yards.  His 65 percent was solid but he played it safe too often against the Chiefs and couldn’t secure a comfortable lead LeSean McCoy rushed 22 times for 49 yards and caught four passes for 30 yards vs. the Chiefs. McCoy got nothing in the run game early, with most of his yards coming in clock-killing mode. Zay Jones caught 3-of-10 targets for 33 yards and a touchdown. Stephen Hauschka kicked three field goals for the Bills, whose defense held Kansas City to 236 yards of total offense. Chiefs running backs Kareem Hunt and Akeem Hunt gained a total of 7 yards Sunday, the fourth-lowest total in a game this season for any team’s running backs. It was also the fewest rushing yards the Bills have allowed to opposing running backs in any game since at least 2001. Bills coach Sean McDermott said Taylor will start Week 13 against the Patriots. “What’s important now is what just happened this week and where we’re going next week and that’s what we’re focused on.”  The Bills have confirmed WR Kelvin Benjamin is dealing with a torn meniscus. Nevertheless, the Bills are labeling Benjamin “day to day” and keeping alive the idea that he could return for Week 13. The Bills acquired Benjamin in an Oct. 31 trade from the Carolina Panthers. He has four catches for 62 yards in two games for Buffalo.
