Top QBs After 2020-21 NFL Regular Season Expert Analysis

Written by on January 7, 2021

Now that the NFL regular season is over, it’s time to start talking about who might be in with a shot at winning the MVP. More often than not, we are looking at a QB to win that award, and it would be surprising if we don’t see it again this season. You can take a look at the stats for each of the QB’s in the league and make a prediction based on stats alone, but there is more to being the best quarterback in the regular season than just numbers alone. What kind of weapons do each of the QBs have to work with, and did they help propel a team to a higher ranking than expected? Taking all that into account, who is the best QB after the regular season? It’s a subjective question, but I am going to take a run at answering it.

Top Quarterbacks after Regular Season and why

Patrick Mahomes Stats

Patrick Mahomes did not lead the league in passing yards this season, but that was only because he was rested in the final week of the season. It was another spectacular year for the young QB, who once again has him team in position to make a run at the Super Bowl. As good as Mahomes is and has been, he has a wealth of weapons at his disposal. This is not to suggest that any old QB could step into the Chiefs lineup and have the same success, but we also have to say that his stats and performance are not totally unexpected. He is the best quarterback in the NFL right now and will certainly get MVP consideration, but I am a going to throw a bit of a curveball with my pick.

Aaron Rodgers Steps Up Again

Last offseason was a strange one for the Green Bay Packers, as they moved up in the draft to select QB Jordan Love in what many viewed as a sign that they were ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers. They may have been ready to move on, but Rodgers was obviously having none of it. While Rodgers fell just outside the top 5 in passing yards, there were other areas where he excelled. He finished #1 in completion percentage at 70.7%, while also leading in TD percentage at 9.1%. An amazing season by Rodgers, who many will have penciled in as their MVP for the season.

Josh Allen is the Man

Over the past couple of seasons, there has been talk that Josh Allen’s time in the NFL, as a starter at least, was winding down. He has made a lot of his doubters look very foolish this season, as he has put together a year that has turned a decent Buffalo Bills team into a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Allen did not lead in any of the major QB categories this year, but he was near the top in most. He basically lifted this team on his shoulders from the off and is the man that made all the difference for the Bills, with a little help from Stefon Diggs.
