Updated Super Bowl LI Odds: Smart Pick, Longshot And Favorite

Written by on November 15, 2016

With my smart pick and longshot in last week’s updated Super Bowl odds recording victories, NFL betting enthusiasts need to know, both, what happened to last week’s favorite – and which teams make up this week’s trio. Let’s find out right now.

Analyzing The Updated Super Bowl LI Odds: Smart Pick, Longshot And Favorite

The Favorite To Win Super Bowl 51

New England Patriots (5/2) Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are still the prohibitive favorites to win Super Bowl 51 just as they were a week ago, but their odds to bring home the bacon have dropped from 2/1 to the 5/2 odds the Pats currently sit at after they fell to the Seattle Seahawks 31-24 on Sunday night. New England will be a very tough out for whoever they face in the postseason, but they’re clearly not invincible, even if they appear to be just that against most opponents. The Patriots are currently 7-2 and ranked sixth in scoring (26.7 ppg) and an identical sixth in points allowed (18.1 ppg). However, just as I wrote a week ago, New England’s downfall could be a defense that ranks 11th against the pass. Seattle’s Russell Wilson exposed the Patriots’ pass defense this past weekend, so I say keep an eye on New England, particularly when they play explosive passing offenses. Right now, I’d say a date in the AFC title game looks like a virtual lock, but I’m not sold on Brady and company beyond that.

The Smart Pick To Win Super Bowl 51

Seattle Seahawks (9/1) Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks (6-2-1) are starting to hit their stride at just the right time after struggling early on this season. The Seahawks have won two straight and three of their last five games and are ranked a stupendous second in points allowed (17.5 ppg), 10th in total defense, 11th against the pass and ninth against the run. While Seattle is raked a modest 21st in scoring at a modest 21.4 points per contest, they’re also playing a lot better s Russell Wilson’s health has improved. The Seahawks have scored 31 points in each of their last two games while scoring 25 points or more in four of their last five games. Sure, the Seahawks are no longer a run-first team as they rely on Wilson’s passing a lot more than they did when Marshawn Lynch was starring in the backfield, but Wilson has proven himself to be as elite as it gets at the quarterback position these days.

The Longshot To Win Super Bowl 51

Kansas City Chiefs (15/1) The Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) may not be a very glamorous kind of team, but I believe they’re very dangerous and could pose problems for any AFC title contender should they reach the postseason in the suddenly-competitive AFC West. While the Chiefs average a modest 22.7 points per game to rank 18th in scoring, Kansas City is very good defensively, even if they don’t get the same amount if national attention as some of their counterparts. The Chiefs have a trio of Pro Bowlers in linebackers Tamba Hali and Justin Houston and arguably the best cornerback in the game today in Marcus Peters. Kansas City limits the opposition to just 18.6 points per game to rank seventh in points allowed. The Chiefs have an excellent head coach in Andy Reid and a steady veteran quarterback in Alex Smith that doesn’t turn the ball over very often at all, making them my top longshot pick, at least until further notice.
