Series History

The teams will meet for the 13th time overall and for the first time since 2014 when the Patriots defeated the Vikings, 30-7, on Sept. 14, 2014, at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. The Patriots have four straight wins over Minnesota.

They host the Vikings for the first time since the 2010 season when they beat the Vikings, 28-18, at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 31, 2010. The Patriots are 5-2 overall against Minnesota in home games with a 0-1 record at Harvard Stadium, a 3-1 record at Foxboro stadium and a 2-0 mark at Gillette Stadium.

Why Bet on Minnesota?

Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 29 of 38 passes (76.3 percent) for 342 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 129.5 passer rating in the Vikings’ Week 12 win over Green Bay. Cousins is one of three NFL quarterbacks (Atlanta’s Matt Ryan and New Orleans’ Drew Brees) with a 70+ completion percentage (71.1), at least 3,000 passing yards (3,289) and a 100+ passer rating (101.9) this season. Sunday was the fourth-best rating of Cousins’ career in games when he’s attempted at least 30 passes.

Adam Thielen caught 8-of-9 targets for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Stefon Diggs caught 8-of-11 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown. Vikings wide receivers all groups at that position with 216 total receptions. Thielen and Diggs have combined for 172 of those catches. Minnesota’s wide receivers also rank second with 19 total touchdown catches.

Coach Mike Zimmer said Monday that top cornerback Xavier Rhodes escaped Sunday night’s win with a “very mild” hamstring injury. Rhodes’ injury looked serious on the field, but a Monday MRI apparently showed he escaped with a day-to-day ailment. Rhodes’ status for Week 13 against the Patriots remains uncertain. That would be a big loss.

Meanwhile, Minnesota’s defense is tied for third in the NFL with 36 total sacks, with Danielle Hunter leading the team with 11.5 sacks. New England’s offense has allowed just 16 sacks, which is tied for the second-fewest in the league.

Why Bet on New England?

The Patriots beat the Jets last Sunday as expected. Tom Brady, who surpassed Peyton Manning (79,279) for the most passing yards in league history (including the postseason) in the game, has 578 career touchdown passes (including the playoffs) and needs two touchdown passes to surpass Manning (579) for the most in league annals. In the regular season, Brady has 507 passing touchdowns. He needs one more score to tie Hall of Famer Brett Favre for third.

Brady has a record of 112-19 in 131 career home games with the Patriots. He has thrown for 33,833 yards with 249 touchdowns and just 66 interceptions. Brady is slated to start against Minnesota for the fifth time in his career. Brady’s first start against Minnesota was in 2002 when he threw three touchdown passes in a 24-17 Patriots victory. Minnesota is one of five NFL teams that Brady has an undefeated regular-season record against.

Vikings vs Patriots is one of the best NFL Week 13 games.

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had 56 receiving yards and a touchdown catch in the team’s Week 12 win. Gronkowski, who is 29 years old, has 78 career touchdown receptions, tying Hall of Famer Terrell Owens (78) for the third-most touchdown catches by a player prior to turning 30 years old in league annals. Only Hall of Famers Randy Moss (101) and Jerry Rice (95) had more career touchdowns prior to the age of 30.

New England will now finish with a record of .500 or better for the 18th straight season, second in NFL history to the 21 straight seasons by the Dallas Cowboys (1965-85). The Patriots are the only team to finish with a record of .500 or better in each of the last 18 seasons (2001-18). Each of the other 31 NFL teams has had at least one losing season since 2001.

The Patriots will own a 54-14 (.794) record vs. NFC teams since realignment in 2002, which is the best interconference record in the NFL during that time, including a 17-3 mark against the NFC North.
