Vikings at Seahawks NFL Week 14 Lines & Pick for Monday Night

Written by on December 5, 2018

A big one in the NFC wild-card race on Monday night to close Week 14 as the Minnesota Vikings, who still have a shot at the NFC North title, face the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle already has been eliminated from the NFC West race but would be a wild-card team as things stand. It is a field goal betting favorite at Mybookie Sportsbook.

In the Wild-Card round of the playoffs following the 2014 season, the Vikings lost 10-9 at home to Seattle – when Minnesota was playing outdoors at the University of Minnesota because their new stadium was being built. Blair Walsh’s 27-yard field goal attempt into the frigid wind hooked left with 22 seconds in below-zero weather that tied for the third-coldest NFL game on record.

The Seahawks didn’t score until Wilson’s short touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin early in the fourth quarter. A fumble by Adrian Peterson on the next possession set up a field goal by Steven Hauschka.

Why Bet on Minnesota?

Minnesota currently sits at 6-5-1 and would be the sixth seed in the NFC playoffs if the season ended today. The Vikings are in second place in the NFC North behind the 8-4 Bears.

The Vikings were 24-10 losers last Sunday at New England. The Vikings entered the game allowing the third-fewest rushing yards in the league (93.6 per game). But New England was able to spread them out, rushing for 160 yards. Kirk Cousins kept Minnesota in the game early, before faltering down the stretch. He finished 32 of 44 for 201 yards and touchdown but had two late interceptions. Coming off a stellar performance in the previous week’s win over Green Bay, Cousins fell apart Sunday, averaging a dismal 4.6 yards per attempt in the loss to New England.

Dalvin Cook rolled to 84 yards on nine carries while supplying eight catches for 22 yards on 10 targets. Adam Thielen registered five grabs for 28 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets. It wasn’t one of Thielen’s better performances, though he still boasts a 98-1,166-9 receiving line for the season.

Minnesota averaged 7.3 yards per carry Sunday against New England with 95 rushing yards on just 13 attempts. That is the Vikings highest average rushing total since Week 10 of the 2015 season when they averaged 8.0 yards per carry against the Raiders.

The Vikings are 29-32 on Monday Night Football in franchise history. Minnesota, which has won three of its past four games in the prime-time slot, has never faced Seattle on Monday night.

Why Bet on Seattle?

The Seahawks are 7-5 and are competing for a Wild Card spot as the Rams have already clinched the NFC West. Both these defenses rank in the top 10 on third downs in 2018. Minnesota is first at 29.9 percent, and Seattle is ninth at 37.3 percent. Seattle blew out San Francisco last week 43-16. Russell Wilson completed 11-of-17 passes for 185 yards and four touchdowns. Wilson only threw six passes in the first half, but he made them count. Wilson now has multiple touchdowns in all but one game this season and is easily on pace to set a new career-high in touchdowns.

Wilson has a record of 41-12 in 53 career home games with the Seahawks. He has thrown for 97 touchdowns and just 25 interceptions in those games. The Seahawks have three players with at least five touchdown catches in 2018, and are one of five teams (along with Cincinnati, Kansas City, the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay) to do so.

Vikings at Seahawks is the last game of NFL Week 14.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Chris Carson suffered a dislocated finger Week 13 against the 49ers. Carson never returned to the game after leaving in the fourth quarter. Still, Carroll expects him to play this week. Right guard D.J. Fluker (hamstring) is going to be out for a while, though. He suffered a first-degree strain of the hammy for Fluker. Jordan Simmons will take over for him.

Seattle ranks first in total rushing attempts (380) and is first in rushing yards per game at 148.8. The Seahawks have rushed for 100-plus yards in nine of 12 games. The Vikings are 0-5 this season when they have allowed 100-plus yards on the ground. Seattle also activated WLB Mychal Kendricks from the reserve/suspended list. Kendricks served an eight-game suspension after getting arrested for insider trading. Kendricks made a big impact during three early-season appearances with Seattle and adds a reinforcement to the team with K.J. Wright ailing.
