Washington Redskins 2018 NFL Betting Guide

Written by on July 6, 2018

Life for the Washington Commanders has been a bit of a circus under the ownership of Daniel Snyder, but over the past few seasons, the team returned to some form of respectability with Kirk Cousins at QB. Rather than reward him for his solid play, the Redskins continually hit him with the franchise tag, with the feeling being that coach Gruden did not really want him at the QB spot. Cousins finally moved on after last season, with Alex Smith being brought over from the Kansas City Chiefs as his replacement. Gruden now has the QB that he wants but is that going to make any difference in the grand scheme of things this season. Only time will tell, but for now, let’s look ahead at some of the big games for the Redskins this season, a team that comes as the NFL Betting underdog to win the NFC East.

Washington Redskins 2018 NFL Betting Guide

Washington Redskins Key Players

  • QB Alex Smith
  • TE Jordan Reed
  • RB Derrius Guice
  • WR Josh Doctson
  • CB Josh Norman
  • LB Ryan Kerrigan

Week 3 vs Green Bay Packers

The Redskins have the opportunity to get off to a fast start with manageable games against the Cardinals and Colts to start the season. Their first major test of the year will come in Week 3 when the Green Bay Packers pay a visit. The Packers have had a couple of disappointing seasons caused by a ridiculous spate of injuries, but they will almost certainly be fit and healthy in the early part of the season. This is the game that will give us a clearer idea of whether the Redskins have progressed or not. A win here could potentially get them to 3-0 and prove that the moves they made were the right ones.

Week 9 vs Atlanta Falcons

There is a very good chance that the Atlanta Falcons are going to be one of the teams to beat in the NFC, so it stands to reason that this is an important game for the Redskins if they want to measure themselves against the best. There is some concern in Atlanta about the status of Julio Jones, as he is holding out right now as he looks for a new contract. That will likely be resolved sooner rather than later, which means the Falcons will come into this one at full strength. This will be an opportunity to see if Smith and his receiving group can hang with the best.

Week 11 vs Houston Texans

The Texans are a team that Alex Smith has had some real success against in his career, going 4-1 and throwing 10 TD’s in the process. The Redskins are NFL Betting underdogs to win the NFC East. Houston is a bit of an unknown commodity heading into this season, as it’s tough to know how DeShaun Watson is going to be after sustaining a major injury last season in the midst of what was shaping up to be a memorable rookie season. I have a feeling that the Texans are going to be just fine, which is why I think this will be another good test for the Redskins.

Week 13 at Philadelphia Eagles

Winning on the road in the NFL is never an easy task, but it is particularly tough when you are heading into the hostile territory that is the home of the defending Super Bowl champs. The Eagles have the opportunity, given the moves they have made, to be even better than last year, which is certainly a rather scary proposition. If the Redskins are to make a big move forward this season, these are the types of games they need to get in the habit of winning.
