NFL Betting Tips on How to Handicap Fading Teams

Week 15 NFL Betting Lines: Miami At New York

Written by on December 15, 2016

You know that the playoffs are just around the corner when Saturday games start to show up on the NFL schedule. At first glance, a match-up between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets may not seem like the most glamorous game on the schedule, but it’s one that is of huge importance to the AFC playoff picture. The Dolphins very much looked like a team that were going to be able to play their way in to a Wild Card spot, but a potential season ending injury to QB Ryan Tannehill may well have put that in serious doubt. Word out of the Dolphins camp is that the injury is not as severe as first believed, but there is definitely no way that Tannehill will be ready to go in this one. If there is a silver lining for Miami, it is that they are playing a Jets team that looks as though it has already quit on the season. We aren’t even sure who they are going to start under center this Saturday. The Dolphins are coming into this crucial game as a 2.5-point betting odds favorite.

In Depth Analysis On The Week 15 NFL Betting Lines: Dolphins At Jets

Why bet on the Miami Dolphins

If the Dolphins are going to get the win they need this weekend, they are going to have to do it with back-up QB Matt Moore. Tannehill is out indefinitely, but there were some encouraging signs last weekend, as Moore came off the bench to lead the Dolphins on a game winning drive versus Arizona. Miami Dolphins will want to take some of the pressure off Moore by getting the run game going, but that is easier said than done for a running unit that has failed to crack 100 yards for 4-straight games. The Jets run defense is pretty woeful, though, so there may just be enough holes available to make it happen.

Why bet on the New York Jets

The good news for the Jets is that they were able to snap a 4-game losing skid with a victory last weekend. The bad news is that it came against the 49ers, who might just be the worst team in the league. Still, it was a much-needed win for a team that essentially failed to show up the week before versus the Indianapolis Colts. The Jets will likely stick with rookie QB Bryce Petty who looked sharp against the 49ers last week. This will be a tougher test for the young man, as the Dolphins defense has forced 15 turnovers in the last 6 games.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Mistakes may well be the difference in this one, and if that is indeed the case, then you need to go with the Dolphins and their opportunistic defense going against a rookie QB. A low-scoring, tight game, but one that Miami wins.
