The Bills will look to keep rolling in Week 5 against the Bengals.

Week 17 NFL Betting Odds: Buffalo At New York

Written by on December 30, 2016

It is always interesting to see what a team will do in the game that immediately follows the head coach being relieved of his duties. No-one was particularly surprised when Rex Ryan was sent packing in Buffalo earlier this week, as the writing had been on the wall for a little while. This is a team that seems to be lacking an identity, probably because they don’t seem to have what anyone would think is a legitimate #1 QB. In that sense, they are very similar to their opponents this weekend, the New York Jets. The difference between these two teams is that the Bills could be instantly better if they could get a serviceable QB under center, whereas the Jets appear to be a mess in every face of the game. The Bills head on the road as a 3.5-point online betting favorite, and I don’t think anyone would be terribly surprised if they came out and laid a beating on the Jets, just to win one for their departed coach.

Here’s A Closer Look At The Week 17 NFL Betting Odds: Bills At Jets

When: Sunday, January 1 at 1 PM EST Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford TV: CBS Radio: WGR and WEPN Live Stream: CBS Sports Network NFL Odds: TBA

Why bet on the Buffalo Bills

The biggest issue for the Bills this season has been their inability to put together any sort of a consistent run. They made a habit of winning back to back games followed by 3 straight losses, or vice versa, which explains why they are more than likely going to finish this season at 8-8. The Buffalo Bills lack the killer touch, with 4 of their 8 losses this season coming by a TD or less. Turning a couple of those close losses into win may have kept them in a playoff position, and their coach in a job. Buffalo are 6-4 SU in their last 10 meetings, but more importantly, are 7-3 ATS in those games. A .500 season would not be perfect, but it would be a whole lot better than a losing one.

Why bet on the New York Jets

There has been no real comment from Jets management yet, but you would have to believe that a 4-12 season would put Todd Bowles job in some jeopardy. The Jets have been awful this season, and if recent reports are to be believed, things are not particularly rosy in the locker room. Even if Bowles does keep the coaching job, this is a team that needs to be blown up and rebuilt sooner rather than later. The Jets have just one win in the last 7 games, with that one coming against a 49ers team that may be in even greater disarray than this one. The Jets are just 3-7 ATS as an underdog this season.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This is not what you would classify as a glamor match-up, but it is one where some money can be made. I think the Bills win this one quite comfortably, and should have no trouble covering the 3.5-point spread.
