NFL Week 3 Lines & Betting Analysis on Falcons at Lions

NFL Week 3 Lines & Betting Analysis on Falcons at Lions

Written by on September 21, 2017

After the first 2 weeks of the 2017 NFL season, there are 8 teams who have an unbeaten record. That number is going to be reduced by at least one, as we have a pair of unbeaten teams going head to head this weekend, with the NFL Week 3 lines favorite Atlanta Falcons hitting the road to face the Detroit Lions. Atlanta can perhaps count themselves a little lucky to be sitting at 2-0, as they struggled pretty badly in Week 1 on the road to the Chicago Bears. That said, the sign of a good team is one that can still come away with the W when they do not play at their best. The Falcons come into this huge game as a 3-point road favorite, and the O/U for this one has been set at 50 ½ points, which may be a little low for two teams that are very good offensively. The Lions have been good through the first two weeks of the season, with QB Matthew Stafford proving that he is worth every cent that the Lions presented to him in a massive new contract. This will be far and away the toughest test for the Lions so far this season, and it may give us a bit of an idea if they are for real or not.

Why consider the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL Week 3 Lines?

While the Falcons have made a perfect 2-0 start to the season, it’s still a little tough to get a true bead on this team. They barely escaped Chicago with a win in Week 1, stuffing the Bears at the goal line in 4 straight attempts to end the game and steal the win. Yes, the win against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 was impressive, but it came against a team that was seriously banged-up. It is more than fair to suggest that, all things considered, this may be the game where we finally get to see what the Falcons are all about. Atlanta does still deserve credit for winning their first 2 games of the season, especially when you consider that there were some genuine concerns that they might struggle with a bit of a Super Bowl hangover after their devastating loss to end last season. Atlanta have been impressive ATS, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. They have also won 4 of their last 5 road games, and have seen the OVER hit in 10 of their last 11 games overall.

Why consider the Detroit Lions in the NFL Week 3 Lines?

There were a lot of very skeptical football fans and pundits out there when the Detroit Lions offered QB Matthew Stafford a contract that made him the richest player in the league. Those folks almost certainly felt vindicated when Stafford tossed a pick-6 in week 1, putting his team in a big hole early on against the Arizona Cardinals. Stafford proved his worth later in that game, though, leading his team to a brilliant 4th quarter comeback, which they then followed up with a very comfortable win over the New York Giants in Week 2. Based on the NFL Week 3 Lines the Lions are the underdogs.   While we may have expected big numbers from Stafford, it has been the play of the Lions defense that has been pleasantly surprising. The swamped Eli Manning on Monday night, and effectively shut the Giants down for most of the game. Detroit are an impressive 7-1 SU at home in their last 8 games, a run that also saw them go 6-2 ATS. It’s a short week for the Lions, but playing at home will take away some of the sting of that.

Expert NFL Week 3 Lines Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think we may very well see a minor upset in this one, as I like the Lions to eke out the win in a close one. I think we may also see the point total sneak OVER, but only by the very slimmest of margins. Atlanta Falcons 24 – Detroit Lions 27
