Where Is The Early Money Going On NFL Season Win Totals?

Written by on May 23, 2017

Thanks to the recent release of 2017 win total odds for every NFL team, football betting enthusiasts everywhere are already well on their way toward making a series of valuable, season-long futures odds picks. However, with some teams’ win total odds looking far more attractive than others, let’s look at where the early money has gone.

Where Is The Early Money Going On NFL Season Win Totals?

New England Patriots 11.5 Wins

The vast majority of win-total bets this offseason have gone on the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots – and rightfully so! The Pats have won at least a dozen games in a mind-boggling seven straight seasons and have played over their season-long win total Odds in four straight seasons. After making a series of excellent offseason acquisitions like getting wide receiver Brandin Cooks, the Pats have the look of virtual locks to top their win total odds again in 2017. New England has won 12 games or more in 11 of the last 14 seasons overall and are favored in their first 15 games of the 2017 regular season.

Cleveland Browns 4.5

Believe it or not, early action on Cleveland to go over their opening 4-game win totals pushed Cleveland’s odds up to 4.5 wins. The Browns added three first round draft picks that will all see plenty of action as rookies, including No. 1 overall pick, defensive end Myles Garrett. Jacksonville Jaguars 5.5

Jacksonville Jaguars 5.5

Another team that has gotten so much early betting action (and I don’t know why) is the Jacksonville Jaguars who opened at 5.5 wins but have moved to 6 wins at many sportsbooks, likely because of the additions of former head coach turned front office guru Tom Coughlin and former LSU superstar running back Leonard Fournette, the fourth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Still, I’d use some caution betting on the Jags seeing as how they went 3-13 last year and haven’t won more than five games since 2010.

Tennessee Titans 9.5

The Tennessee Titans’ win total has dropped to 9 wins after it opened at 9.5 wins. Marcus Mariota and company went 9-7 last season and could have easily gotten to 10 wins< or more had their blossoming signal-caller not gone down with a season-ending injury in Week 15.

Oakland Raiders 9.5 Wins

A ton of NFL bettors have jumped all over Derek Carr and the Oakland raiders to top 9.5 wins after they won 12 games a year ago in what was truly a breakout campaign. Last but not least, there are three more teams that should be getting plenty of action to top their respective win totals in 2017. The Miami Dolphins have a 7.5-game win total after winning 10 games to reach the playoffs for the first time in a decade last season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sitting on an 8-game win total after racking up nine victories last season and adding some really nice pieces in the offseason, starting with veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Finally, the Arizona Cardinals are sitting on 7.5 wins after going 7-8-1 a year ago. The Cards had been perennial double-digit winners under head coach Bruce Arians and won 13 games in 2015, 11 games in 2014 and 10 games in 2013, so they’re clearly offering plenty of value heading into 2017.
