Unlike any other all-star game from the other big sports leagues, the NHL All-Star Game showcases the best players from each division. Every team in every division must be represented by at least 1 player.

3-on-3 Single Elimination Tournament
The NHL All-Star Game is really a 3-on-3, single elimination tournament, where players from one division battles players from another division in one game. The same thing happens in the next game. Then, the two winners of each of the first two games take to the ice for the third game.
Each game lasts 20 minutes. A goalie and two other players battle it out on each team for those 20 minutes. Now that we know how the NHL showcases their all-stars, let’s get to the matchups!
Central Division vs Pacific Division

The Pacific’s got a major advantage over the Central. Vegas Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury leads the league with 27 wins. He’s been as fantastic this season as he was last season. When Fluery’s not in goal, the very good John Gibson will be. Even though Gibson stands behind one of the worst teams in NHL, he’s been great, winning 17 games.
That’s not the only advantage the Pacific has. L.A. Kings’ player Drew Doughty might be the best defenseman in NHL. Forwards Connor McDavid and Elias Pettersson will be impossible to stop when they’re on the ice.

Metropolitan Division -105 vs Atlantic Division -115

The Atlantic Division has the slight edge in the second game. When you think NHL All-Star, you think of players from the Atlantic Division: Toronto’s Auston Matthews and John Tavares, Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, and Boston’s David Pasternak.
You also think of Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. Andrei’s a replacement. No worries because he’s been very good this season. He’s played well in the most offensively aggressive team in NHL. Close to often being on an island, Vasilevskiy’s shown up almost every night.
He’ll show up again on Saturday night to lead the Atlantic to a victory.

Pacific Division vs Atlantic Division
The Pacific has won the last couple of NHL All-Star Games in the 3-on-3 format. The main reason has been Fleury and McDavid. It helps that Doughty’s been so good this season. If anything, the Pacific’s a better team in 2018 than they were in 2017.
Pettersson will make sure of that. You never know what will happen in an all-star game, but the Pacific Division sure looks ready to make it 3 trophies in a row.
