Winning on the road on a consistent basis is never easy, but there are certain road trips that are a good deal more difficult than others. The toughest one always seems to be when you go out of conference and across the country for an extended trip against good teams. Throughout the years, heading out west to play the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers on back to back nights has proven to be a killer for a lot of teams, even when those two Alberta squads were not at their best. With the Flames now one of the best teams in the NHL, that trip has once again become something of a nightmare.
The New Jersey Devils are there right now and need to find a way to get their mojo back quickly after getting totally pummeled by the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. The Oilers seem like an easier proposition, but bouncing back the next night after a tough loss is never easy. Edmonton is favored by 1 ½ on home ice, with the O/U for this one set at 6.

Why bet on the New Jersey Devils?
The Devils are ending their season on a particularly sour note, coming into this one on a run that has seen them lose 7 straight games. They are now firmly entrenched at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, and with just 59 points on the season, they do not even have a remote shot at getting into the postseason.
While this run has been poor, it was their 9-4 loss to the Calgary Flames that was perhaps the worst of the bunch, especially when you consider that the Devils were up 4-1 at one point. New Jersey is now a brutal 8-24-3 on the road, so it’s tough to imagine them breaking out of this slump away from home. Their away record against the spread is perhaps not quite as poor as you might expect, as they are 16-19 ATS on the road.

Why bet on the Edmonton Oilers?
A couple of seasons ago, the Oilers looked as though they were on the brink of something great. They had Connor McDavid in the fold and had him surrounded by some exciting young talent. While McDavid continues to excel, the rest of the team has not been able to keep the pace. As it stands right now, the Oilers are on their way to missing the postseason.
They are 6 points out of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, and while that is not a huge gap, there are a handful of teams ahead of them fighting for that same spot. The Oilers have taken 4 of the last 5 from New Jersey, although that lone defeat came early this season. Edmonton is 16-6-2 at home, but are on a run of good form, going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
