Predators lead 1-0, winning 3-0 in Raleigh on Nov. 29. Pekka Rinne made 31 saves in the shutout. Rinne was good early and needed to be. The Hurricanes were buzzing the net to start the game, but couldn’t score on 12 first-period shots. Rocco Grimaldi, Calle Jarnkrok and Austin Watson scored for the Predators, who broke a six-game losing streak against the Hurricanes. Grimaldi gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at 8:15 with a breakaway goal on Carolina’s Petr Mrazek (25 saves). It was Mrazek’s first career loss to Nashville in nine starts.
The Hurricanes and Predators are meeting for the 31st time in their histories, with Carolina holding a 14-12-1-3 overall record.
Why Bet on Carolina?
The Hurricanes come off a 4-3 home overtime loss to Edmonton on Sunday. Josh Archibald scored his second goal of the game in overtime to win it for the Oilers. Sebastian Aho had two goals and one assist in the loss.
Aho picked up an assist on a goal by Trevor van Riemsdyk just 12 seconds into the contest. His 32nd goal of the season gave Carolina a 2-1 lead during the second period and his second goal of the match tied the game at 3-3 at the 14:58 mark of the third frame. He also finished with the match with six shots on goal. Aho has nine goals and six assists during a nine-game point streak. He has 56 points over 58 games.
Aho’s three-point marked his 14th multi-point game of the season and the 59th of his NHL career. He has registered 253 points (116g, 137a) through 300 career NHL games, which marks the fourth-most goals and points by a player through their first 300 career NHL games in franchise history. Aho leads the Hurricanes and is ranked tied for fifth in the NHL in goals, and he is tied with Teuvo Teravainen (12g, 44a) for the team lead in points. Aho has recorded 34 points in his last 29 games (12/7-2/16: 20g, 14a) after posting 22 points in his first 29 games this season (10/3-12/5: 13g, 9a).
Van Riemsdyk scored his first goal of the season, while Jaccob Slavin registered two assists for his third multi-point game of 2019-20. Andrei Svechnikov registered an assist to extend his point streak to seven games (2/2-2/16: 4g, 5a). This marks the second-longest point streak of his career, trailing only his nine-game point streak earlier this season from 11/9-11/27 (5g, 8a). Svechnikov has now registered 54 points (23g, 31a) through 58 games this season, and he has earned at least a point in 27 of Carolina’s 33 wins in 2019-20.
James Reimer stopped 20 shots. Reimer allowed two goals in the second period on 11 shots, but he wasn’t very busy afterward. The Oilers only had three shots on target during the third period, but scored on their only shot in overtime to steal the win. The defeat ended Reimer’s four-game win streak and drops his record to 14-6-2 on the year.

Why Bet on Nashville?
The Preds won their third in a row Sunday, 2-1 over St. Louis. Kyle Turris scored the game-winning goal with 2:12 remaining in the third period. Turris collected a pass that broke out of a scrum along the boards, walked into the slot and fired a shot through a screened Jordan Binnington to put the Preds up by one late in the third period. It was the 30-year old’s ninth goal and 28th point of the 2019-20 season. Of his nine goals this season, four of them have been of the game-winning variety.
Craig Smith had the other goal, his 17th of the season. Smith opened the scoring at the 7:55 mark of the second period. He has tallied six goals in the past five games. Smith has 28 points in 58 games this season.
Pekka Rinne stopped 38 out of 39 shots that he faced. The 37-year old goaltender was only beat on a pass that banked off his defenseman’s leg and into the net. It was otherwise a perfect outing by Rinne. His record improved to 18-13-3, along with his goals-against average (3.04) and save percentage (.898).
Nashville has won seven of 10 to climb a point out of the Western Conference’s two wild card spots with three games in hand on Arizona and two on Calgary. The Predators hadn’t won three straight since Oct. 29.
“It’s growing,” Turris said of his team’s confidence. “It’s the time of the year you want it to be growing too. You want to get hot at the right time. We have a lot of work to do and ground to make up, but at the same time, we’re trying to move in the right direction.”
