How to Bet Jets vs Avalanche NHL Spread & Analysis

Written by on February 20, 2019

One of the biggest discussions that hockey fans have every year is in regards to which of the two conferences is the strongest. Right now, you have the Tampa Bay Lightning running away with the Eastern Conference, but over in the West, there appears to be a great deal more parity, if the current playoff race is anything to go by. The question now is whether that parity is down to the fact that there are a lot of good teams canceling each other out, or whether mediocrity is at play.

For me, it’s the former, as you can make a very strong case for 4 or 5 teams in the West as a potential Stanley Cup winner. One of those teams is almost certainly the Winnipeg Jets, who are currently at the top of the Central Division by the very slimmest of margins. They will be hosting a Colorado Avalanche team that is down near the bottom of that division, albeit still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot. It’s all to play for here, with the Jets in as a 1 ½ goal underdog. The O/U for this one is set at 6 ½.

Why bet on the Winnipeg Jets?

The Winnipeg Jets still hold a 1-point lead over the Nashville Predators, but back to back losses are seeing them heading in the wrong direction at a critical stage of the season. Those losses have dropped them to 5-3-2 in their last 10 games, although it should have zero impact on their playoff fate, as this is a team that is definitely going to be part of a Stanley Cup run.

The one thing that goes against the Jets in this one is that this series more often than not delivers a home winner. Colorado won in Winnipeg in their last match-up, but prior to that, it was the home team that won in 10 straight games. Overall, though, the Jets have won 4 of the last 5 against the Avs and are 15-12-0 on the road this season.

Why bet on the Colorado Avalanche?

The Avalanche are coming off a win in their last game, and to say that is was much-needed is putting things rather mildly, as it took them to just 2-5-3 in their last 10. The Avalanche is one of a cluster of teams sitting on 59 points, which is just one game off the pace being set by the Minnesota Wild in the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

Jets vs Avalanche is one of the best games scheduled for Wednesday Night.

Given the gap that the top 3 teams in the division are opening up, the Wild Card is the only realistic way into the playoffs for the Avalanche, but they need to play better than they have been of late if they are to make that leap. Home ice has not been a huge advantage for the Avalanche, who are 11-12-5 in their own building.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I am really on the fence with this one, but the one wager that I do like is the OVER. The last 4 meetings between these two teams have delivered an average of 7 ½ goals per game, so expect some offensive fireworks.
