At this stage of the NHL betting season, there is little doubt as to who is the team to beat in the league. The Washington Capitals have been nothing short of spectacular all year long, and they look like a shoe-in for the President’s trophy right now. The Kings (33-19-3) have seized control of what has admittedly not been a very good Pacific Division this season. They have accomplished this in large part due to their accomplishments on the road, where they are now a very impressive 18-9-2. LA seem to be able to play a more open style of hockey when they go on the road, which is pretty much contradictory to what everyone else usually tries to do. They skated away to a 5-4 win over the Rangers, and have also taken 9 off the Bruins in another of their wins in this current 7-game road trip. The Kings were a little disappointing in a 1-0 loss to the Devils in their last game, but their road record makes it pretty clear that they are able to bounce back nicely on the road. The Kings are averaging 2.7 GPG, and are giving up 2.3 GPG, both of which are top 10 numbers.

The Capitals (40-10-4) are good for a number of different reasons, but you have to say that consistency is where they truly shine. This is a team that has not endured a losing streak of more than 2 games all season long, which is almost impossible to do in a season as long and grueling as the one in the NHL. They are coming off a loss to the Dallas Stars, and since they have only lost back to back games twice this season, you would have to think the odds would be in their favor here. The Capitals are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, and are currently boasting a formidable 20-4-2 record on home ice. After going 5 games without registering a goal, the #1 ranked power play unit has now scored in each of Washington’s last 3 games. The Capitals are averaging 3-3 GPG, and are giving up 2.3 GPG.
