Why Bet The Montreal Canadiens Odds at -115
The best reason to be on the Montreal Canadiens (49-27-7, 26-16 road) is because they pretty much dominated the Rangers from start to finish in their 3-1 Game 3 win on Sunday.Alexander Radulov scored a nifty goal and had an assist to lead the way as Montreal jumped all over New York with some aggressive play in the first period. The Canadiens out-shot the Rangers 20-11 in the opening stanza and while they only led 1-0 after two periods, there was no doubt that they dominated.
Canadiens goaltender Carey Price made 20 saves and was just 2:56 away from an easy shutout when Rangers defenseman Brady Skjei scored on a long blast that was deflected.
“We had a solid performance from all our guys,” Montreal coach Claude Julien said. “You can’t afford any weak links, and we didn’t have any tonight.”
“It’s an ideal road game, for sure,” Price said. “I thought we played pretty tight and played as a unit. We played with a lot of confidence. That’s a team that wants to get to the net and we want to box them out. It’s a pretty classic story of playoff hockey.”
Radulov had a highlight reel goal when he scored with one hand on his stick after faking out one defender and goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
Why Bet The New York Rangers Odds at -110
The best reason to back the Rangers (49-29-3, 21-17-0 home) in Game 4 is that, despite their poor play at the offensive end in Game 3, they were still just one goal down at the start of the final period. New York won Game 1 by two goals and narrowly lost Game 2 in overtime, so they should have plenty of belief they can play with the Canadiens despite their stumble in Game 3.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
As much as I’d like to see the Rangers turn their matchup against the Canadiens into a ‘real’ series, I just don’t see it happening, even with New York playing at home in Game 4. The Canadiens have been the better team in just about every sinlge major statistical category excpet scoring, where they trail the Rangers by percentage points.
Montreal is the far better defensive team in this series and that is why I like them to win Game 4 against the Rangers, no matter how desperate New York is.
The Canadiens are 6-1 in their last 7 road games, 10-3 in their last 13 conference quarterfinal games and 6-2 in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. On the flip side of the coin, the Canadiens are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 2-7 in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 2-9 in their last 11 home games. Back the Canadiens to get the one-goal win.
