Betting on the NY Rangers vs Detroit NHL Spread

Written by on March 11, 2016

I have spoken before about how teams can get on a roll at the latter stages of the NHL season that propels them into the playoffs. What I haven’t really mentioned are the teams that see their season fall apart in the final few weeks, with the end result being that they miss out on the postseason altogether. That is the slippery slope that the Detroit Red Wings are on right now, and they are going to have to find some traction of they don’t want to be watching the first round on TV when the regular season ends. They do not have an easy one with which to start that upward climb, as they will have a matinee meeting with a very good New York Rangers team on Saturday afternoon. This is an important match-up in regards the Eastern Conference standings, and you can keep up to date with all the latest NHL betting odds at the betting page.

Betting on the New York Rangers vs Detroit Red Wings NHL Spread

When: Saturday, March 12 at 2 PM EST Where: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit TV: MSG and FSDT Radio: WEPN and WXYT NHL Odds: TBA

Why bet on the New York Rangers

The Rangers (39-22-6) came into the season as the reigning President’s Trophy winners, and while they are not going to be able to repeat that feat this time around, they are still in the hunt to finish second in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers, like every other team in the league, are far off the pace being set by the Washington Capitals, but they are a very solid 7-3-0 in their last 10 games. The one knock against them at this point is their performance on the road this season, as they are currently just a single game over .500. They do already have a win over the Red Wings this season, so that has to go in their favor here. The Rangers are averaging 2.8 GPG, and re giving up 2.6 GPG.

Why bet on the Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings (33-23-11) are holding on to the first of the two Wild Card spots in the Eastern Conference, but they are starting to look a little vulnerable right now. The Wings are just 4-4-2 in their last 10 games, and have to be looking over their shoulder at the Penguins and Flyers, both of whom are making a move towards the position currently held by Detroit. The Wings are coming off a big win versus Winnipeg, and now have a home record that stands at a respectable 17-11-6. They have back to back home games this weekend before heading on the road for 4-straight, so it’s imperative that they pick up some points before that trip. The Red Wings are averaging 2.5 GPG, and are giving up 2.6 GPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The last 4 games between these 2 teams have been decided by a single goal, and I think that is what we will see again in this one. I’m giving the nod to the in-form New York Rangers. New York Rangers 3 Detroit Red Wings 2
