Season Series

The Oilers lead 2-1. Teams last played on Jan. 18 and Edmonton rolled 7-3 at home. Riley Sheahan had a goal and three assists and Connor McDavid scored twice. Josh Archibald, Sam Gagner, Kailer Yamamoto and Joakim Nygard also scored for the Oilers. The Coyotes pulled their goalie early and the Oilers took advantage with just under four minutes left on a goal by Sheahan, giving him his first career four-point game. Taylor Hall, Christian Dvorak and Oliver Ekman-Larsson responded for the Coyotes.

Why Bet on Edmonton?

The Oilers are on a two-game winning streak and blew out the Flames 8-3 in Calgary on Saturday. The Oilers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and extended it to three before the Flames rallied in the second period. Edmonton then reeled off four unanswered goals and earned their first win over the Flames in four tries this season.

Connor McDavid scored a pair of goals in the win. The Edmonton captain ripped a shot through traffic for a power play goal to boost the Oilers’ lead to 3-1 late in the first period, then scored on a rush early in the second to make it 4-1. McDavid is on his way to reaching the 100-point plateau for the fourth consecutive year, as he now has 29 goals and 50 assists in 52 games. He also has seven goals and eight assists in his last nine contests.

Leon Draisaitl had four assists in the win. The NHL’s leading scorer has 29 goals and 83 points, four better than McDavid. Draisaitl is riding an 11-game points streak in which he has seven goals and 17 assists. Draisaitl was chosen as the first star of the week in the NHL on Monday. The 24-year-old German earlier this season became the fastest Oilers player to hit the 80-point mark in a season since 1989-90 (Mark Messier in 50 GP).

Mike Smith stopped 15 of 18 shots against the Flames before getting into a fight with Cam Talbot and being replaced by Mikko Koskinen on Saturday. Smith dropped the gloves with Cam Talbot with 24 seconds left in the second period. Koskinen handled the third period and stopped all eight shots that he faced in relief.

Not clear if winger James Neal will play here after sitting out all weekend because of a foot injury. He has 19 goals and 29 points in 50 matches this season.

Why Bet on Arizona?

The Coyotes lost their fifth in a row Saturday, 3-2 in a shootout at home vs. Chicago. Patrick Kane scored in the overtime shootout and Corey Crawford stopped both shootout attempts he faced for the Hawks. Arizona has lost all three games out of the break, including back-to-back overtime games at home.

Conor Garland scored his 17th goal of the season in his 100th NHL game Saturday. Garland leads the Coyotes in goals and has turned into a good player despite seeing spotty action as a top-six forward. He is currently seeing first line action with Taylor Hall and Christian Dvorak and has 30 points. Brad Richardson had the other Coyotes goal.

Antti Raanta allowed two goals on 44 shots. He’s 9-11-3 with a 2.93 goals-against average and .913 save percentage across his 24 appearances so far this season.

On Monday, the team assigned Kyle Capobianco to the minors. Capobianco logged 14:44 of ice time in Saturday’s loss to Chicago after he was called up from the minors. His demotion likely bodes well for Ilya Lyubushkin (illness) and/or Oliver Ekman-Larsson (lower body), as they both missed Saturday’s game. No. 1 netminder Kuemper was placed on injured reserve Monday retroactive to Jan. 29. Kuemper was lifted from IR ahead of the All-Star break but will sit out his 18th straight game Tuesday versus the Oilers. The 29-year-old Kuemper posted a .929 save percentage and 15-8-2 record before getting injured.
