Bet on the Washington vs LA Kings Hockey Match Up

Written by on March 8, 2016

We usually have to go pretty late in the season before it becomes apparent who is going to finish the year with the best record in the NHL. That does not appear to be the case this season, though, as the Washington Capitals have all but laid claim to the President’s Trophy, which would be the second straight year that a team from the Metropolitan Division has won that honor. They are currently 15 points ahead of the team with the second best record in the league, and we are getting close to the point where the conversation begins about whether or not the Caps should start resting some guys ahead of the playoffs. There is probably still some time for Washington to figure out what to do there, but for now they have to continue to focus on the games at hand, which means preparing for a visit to LA to face the Kings on Wednesday night. This should be a very good match up, and it’s one that you can wager on the latest NHL betting spread.

Why bet on the Washington Capitals

The reality here is that I should really be looking for reasons why you shouldn’t bet on the Washington Capitals (49-13-4). This is a team that is great in just about every statistic you care to mention, and which very much looks like the team to beat this season. Coach Barry Trotz has done a fantastic job of installing a defensive system that is as good as that potent Capitals offense. What you are left with is a team that has very few weaknesses, and who can beat you in a variety of different ways. This will be the third game on a 4-game road trip for Washington, and they have already won their opening 2 games, both by 2-1 margins. Overall, the Caps have posted a ridiculously good 23-7-2 record on the road this season. They are averaging 3.2 GPG, and are giving up just 2.3 GPG.

Why bet on the LA Kings

The Kings (39-22-4) have not been the most consistent team in the league this season, but they have done enough to stay in the race at the top of the Pacific Division, which has admittedly been pretty weak this year. The Kings have managed to succeed this season, thanks in large part to their performance at the Staples Center, where they are 20-11-1. They have also been solid against teams form the Eastern Conference, going 17-9-2, and also have a good 8-5-0 record against teams from the Metropolitan Division. That said, they did come up short when they faced the Capitals earlier this season, going down 3-1 in Washington. The Kings are averaging 2.7 GPG, and are giving up 2.3 GPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

There are a pair of very good defenses on display in this game, and that may mean that we see a game on the lower scoring end of the scale. I like the Caps to come away with the win, although it may take OT to get it.
