Winning Favorites For The Calgary At Los Angeles NHL Match

Written by on April 5, 2017

For some teams in the NHL, it’s the Stanley Cup or nothing, while for others, simply making it into the postseason is reward enough. The latter seems to be reserved for teams that are considered to be of the small market variety, which would include the Calgary Flames. While the salary cap has helped those smaller teams be more competitive on a consistent basis, they still don’t have the money that the bigger boys have to throw around, which takes away some of theta competitive edge. Word out of Calgary this week is that the team is in talks with the city in regard a new arena that would deliver much needed streams of income they currently don’t get in their current home. That discussion appears to be at an impasse, to the point where talks of moving to another city have been floated. It’s all a bit of a distraction to a team that is heading to the playoffs, and who will be on the road in LA to face the Kings on Thursday night. Find out more about the updated NHL betting odds here.

Why bet on the Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames (44-32-4) have been one of the more fun teams to watch in the second half of the season, but they are not finishing as strongly as many had expected. It appears as though they took the foot off the gas the moment they clinched a playoff spot this season, so their back to back losses to the Anaheim Ducks are somewhat understandable. Their two remaining games come against division rivals in the LA Kings and San Jose Sharks, neither of whom are playing particularly good hockey at the moment. A win in those two games could help the Flames improve their overall standing, which might help them avoid the Chicago Blackhawks in the opening round.

Why bet on the LA Kings

It has been an incredibly disappointing year for the LA Kings (38-34-7), and they will be packing up their gear and sitting home after this weekend. They have simply not been consistent enough to be deserving of a playoff spot, which is all the more disappointing when you consider that they have one of the top 5 defenses in the league. It has been offense that has killed the Kings all season long, as they are currently 25th in goals scored per game. They have had to rely on that defense on far too many nights, and just haven’t scored enough to win those close games that could have made a difference in their overall standings.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

These two team have split their last 4 meetings, and are actually pretty evenly matched. It was the Kings who won the last meeting against the Flames 4-1, but I believe Calgary will exact a little revenge here, albeit in a close one.
