That gives the Spanish a big edge over every team in the tournament. Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon, Barcelona players Eric Garcia and Pedri, Villareal’s Pau Torres, and Real Sociedad player Mikel Oyarzabal will ensure Spain easily beats Egypt on the handicap.

But the Republic of Korea should be on the short list of teams that could upset the Spanish. South Korea has younger talent some of which has started to show up on European League clubs. Korea should win.

The best soccer player at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics could strap on the cleats for the Ivory Coast. Few teams will send a player of Amad Diallo’s caliber to the pitch. At the age of 19, Diallo has secured a spot with Manchester United. He’ll ensure the Ivory Coast handles Saudi Arabia.

Argentina sends big talent to the pitch. Goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma plays for Cadiz and defender Claudio Bravo plays for the Portland Timbers. 20-year-old Japanese star Takefusa Kubo plays for Real Madrid. South Africa has no player that should stick with Kubo. Not only that, but Japan is the host nation. So they’ll have an incentive to start their medal quest on the right foot. Backing the Japanese on the handicap is the play.

Thursday’s top tournament opening match pits mighty Brazil versus strong Germany. Lead by Richarlison, Brazil is absolutely loaded. Most believe Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli wins the Golden Boot. Germany has some talent, though. Also, unlike Brazil, Germany will start a veteran, Max Kruse, with plenty of international experience. The odds make the Germans an overlay.
