Olympic Volleyball Odds: Expert Analysis for the Gold Medal Race

With the 2024 Paris Olympic Games winding down, expect a flurry of activity over the next few days.

There are still a ton of medals up for grabs, with tournaments and individual events coming to an end before we get to the closing ceremonies on Sunday night.

My Analysis

Among the list of bog events coming this weekend is the gold medal games in both the men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments.

If you have been following along, you will be well aware that we have seen some thrilling matchups on both sides, so we can only hope that the gold medal games live up to those previous games.

Let’s take a closer look at both finals to see if we can pick some winners.

Men’s Final: France vs Poland

Saturday at 7 AM EST | This is something of a surprise gold medal game, especially when you consider that neither of these teams won their respective pools in the opening round.

France won 2 of 3 in Pool A, finishing behind Slovenia, the only team they lost to in the group stage.

That led to them meeting Germany in the quarterfinals, which France won 3-2 in a fantastic game. They then went on to demolish Italy 3-0 to reach the final.

It was a very similar story for Poland in the group stage, as they had to settle for 2nd place in Pool B behind a very dominant Italy team.

Things were more comfortable in the quarterfinal with a 3-1 win over Slovenia, before the Poles moved on with an epic 5-set win over the United States in the semi-final.

Both semi-finals were a surprise, but I think that France was the more surprising of the two winners, especially with the manner in which they took out a highly favored Italy team. I like the host nation to take gold here.

Olympic Volleyball Pick: France 3-2 Poland

Women’s Final: United States vs Italy

Sunday at 7 AM EST | Unlike the men’s final, this matchup is not that surprising at all, as both of these teams were favored in the early going.

The United States had to settle for second in Pool A after losing to China in the preliminary round, but they certainly made things look easy in the quarterfinal, blowing past Poland in straight sets.

That set up a semi-final against Brazil and it proved to be a fantastic matchup, with the US squeezing past Brazil with a 3-2 win in a truly memorable match.

If you had to pick a single word to describe this Italy team, it might well be terrifying, as they have looked about as good as it gets all the way through this tournament.

They were totally dominant in the group stage, winning all 3 of their games and only dropping a single set along the way.

That was a trend that carried over into the knockout phase for Italy. They rolled to a 3-0 win in their quarterfinal matchup with Serbia before beating Turkey in the semi-final by the exact same score.

If truth be told, the Italians look to be far and away the class of the women’s tournament, and while I think the US will put up a fight, I can’t see anyone but Italy winning the gold medal.

Olympic Volleyball Pick: Italy 3-1 United States

Updated Olympic Volleyball Picks, July 31, 2024

One of the great things about the Olympic Games is that there is always something exciting to watch at any given time of day.

There are countless sports being played as we speak, with the battle for medals always exciting to watch.

My Analysis

For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on volleyball, which is getting very close to the end of the Preliminary Round, which is essentially the group stage.

The men’s and women’s tournaments are both starting to heat up, so we are going to try and break down both events to see how things might play out, so let’s get right to it.

Men’s Olympic Volleyball

The men’s side of things has a total of 12 nations, 8 of whom will make it out of the Preliminary Round and into the quarterfinals.

The top 2 teams in each pool will automatically move on, while the best 3rd place finisher will also head into the knockout phase.

In Pool A, Slovenia and France have already punched their tickets into the next round, while Serbia and Canada are basically still alive, although both would need to win and hope for some help if their quest for a medal is to continue beyond the opening round.

It is a very similar story in Pool B, with Italy and Poland taking the top 2 spots.

Again, the other two teams are still in with a slim chance at taking the best 3rd place finisher spot, with Brazil having a slight edge over Egypt in that battle.

Things are a little tighter in Pool C, where it seems most likely that we will have 3 teams coming out and moving into the knockout phase.

The United States, Japan, and Germany are separated by just 2 points at the moment, with Argentina sitting at the bottom of the pool and out of the race.

Women’s Olympic Volleyball

The format on the women’s side is the same as on the men’s, but things are not quite as clear at the moment, as all 12 teams have played just once to this point.

That means that the pools are still pretty much wide open, but things should become much more predictable once we play the second set of games in the Preliminary Round.

In Pool A, it is Serbia who sit on top after taking all 3 points from their opening game against France.

The United States and China played a 5-set classic, with China edging out the win to take 2 points versus 1 for the US.

Pool B is headed up by Brazil, who took care of Kenya in straight sets in their opening game.

Poland had to work a little harder but still came away with the victory in their first game of the tournament, requiring 4 sets to take care of Japan.

The matchup between the two winners will likely decide who wins Pool B.

We have a definite leader in Pool C, with Italy taking all 3 points after beating the Dominican Republic 3-1 in their opening game.

The other game was a beauty, with Turkey beating Netherland 3-2 to pick up 2 points, while the Dutch had to settle for 1.

Olympic Volleyball Expert Picks

There are some marquee events that happen at the Summer Olympics every four years, and volleyball is one of those events.

While volleyball will be played on the beach in some capacity, a lot of the focus will be on indoor volleyball as well.

It’s been a long journey for the top countries to get to the Olympics, and now the best teams in the world are set to compete.

Not only should you be looking to watch the best volleyball teams in the world compete, but you are also going to find some great betting options.

Here is a look at the odds to win the Olympic Volleyball gold medal for both the men and women, and some of the top bets to make.

Tight Women’s Odds

Volleyball has long been a sport played by women, even though it’s now trickled over to the men’s side of things as well.

There are some countries with a long history of success in volleyball, and they are going to be the teams to watch.

Italy is the betting favorite to win the gold medal as they have odds sitting at +232 to come away with the win.

Turkey is another country that has had some success in the past and they are sitting at +320 to get the gold medal.

The odds to win the gold medal for Brazil are sitting at +390, and then it’s Team USA that is next on the list at +470.

Since there are so many teams with tight odds, it’s going to be a great tournament at the Paris Olympics.

This will be a great opportunity to cash in, but there are a couple of bets that you simply have to make.

Go with Italy to win the gold medal in this sport as they just consistently get the job done.

A Unique Men’s Favorite

When looking at the betting odds to win gold in this sport, Poland is the team to beat as they have betting odds set at +300 to win the gold medal.

That is not a country that is going to be favored to win many gold medals, but this is a sport in which they have had a ton of success.

Italy is the next team on the list when looking at the betting odds as they have odds sitting at +400.

Italy is a country that has had some success in this sport in the past, and they will be looking to get back on top by winning another gold medal this year.

The host country of France could also be in the mix as they have betting odds that are set at +480 to come away with a gold medal.

Finally, Team USA is another country that could end up being in the mix, and their odds are sitting at +560 to come away with the win.

If you are going to bet on one of these countries then you will want to take Team USA at +560 as they have had a ton of success in the past.

2020 Tokyo Olympics: Volleyball Events During the Week

Previous Betting News

There is never a dull moment when the Olympic Games are on, as there are always a ton of events to choose from at any given time. If you like a lot of action and exciting plays, then you need to be tuning into volleyball in Tokyo. There are a couple of different ways you can go here, which is traditional volleyball on the hard court or 2-person teams going head-to-head on the beach. Both competitions are in the early stages of play, giving you plenty of games to tune into throughout the week. Let’s take a look at the current state of play to get an idea of where you should be spending your money when you wager on Olympics Volleyball odds.

2020 Tokyo – Volleyball and Beach Volleyball Betting Preview for this Week’s Events

Volleyball Pool Stage

In regular volleyball, on both the men’s and women’s side of things, the teams are split into two pools. The top 4 teams in each pool move on to the knockout round, so a lot to play for.

On the women’s side, each team has played just 1 game to this point. In Pool A, it was Japan, Serbia, and Brazil coming away with wins in their opening games. The Brazilians are always among the favorites and always a good bet to win. In Pool B, it was Turkey, Italy, and the United States picking up wins, so they would certainly be favored to move on, although things can change quickly.

As I write this piece, the men are in the process of completing their second round of games, with some already having played. In Pool A, Japan, Iran, and Poland are very much in the driver’s seat and looking like a good bet to move on. Pool B sees The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) on top, followed by Brazil and the United States. As mentioned, Brazil and the United States always field strong teams, so look for them to be in the mix once we get to the medal rounds.

Beach Volleyball Preliminary Round

While teams still compete for their nation in beach volleyball, countries can have more than one entry. The preliminary round sees teams split into 6 different pools of 4, so expect a lot of games this week.

On the men’s side in Pool A, we have an ROC team and a Norwegian team filling the top 2 spots. Over in Pool B, it is Latvia and ROC on top. Pool C has Qatar and the United States leading the way, while Pool D has Brazil and Netherlands leading, neither of which is a surprise, The final two pools are Pool E, with Poland and Brazil on top, and Pool F, which sees Poland and Italy as the leaders.

On the women’s side, we have Canada and Switzerland sitting on top of Pool A. In Pool B, it is the United States and Spain in the lead, while Pool C has Brazil and China looking very good. A familiar theme emerging in Pool D, with Brazil and the United Stated leading the way. Pool E has Australia and ROC on top, while Pool E sees Switzerland and Germany on top.

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
